Randoms/weekend plans/whatever

I have finally settled on my latest haircut, and am rotating between being excited and terrified. But I have talked about it to the point where I kind of have to do it.

I am meeting my friends new baby tonight and am excited, because I am no longer terrified of newborns. I am still scared of kids overall though.

I just found out I am going to France in a few weeks and am not really happy about it. I should be excited, but I have turned into a unambitious stereotype since having Charlotte. I actually told my boss I have little interest in moving up.

I hate having to watch commercials now, like common folk.

Re: Randoms/weekend plans/whatever

  • Weekend plans:  There is a chance I won't have to work this weekend.  I'm so thrilled I could poo.  Everyone must vibe for this.  No other T&P requests will be tolerated today.  Tomorrow some friends are coming to town (not the ones who bailed on me a few weeks ago), and we're going out for dinner and drinks.

Randoms:  Earlier this morning, a coworker was standing in the doorway of my office, talking to me about a case, and suddenly there was a fart sound in the hallway.  I'm not sure if it was him or the secretary who was sitting behind him.  I strained all my facial muscles maintaining my poker face.

ADDITIONAL RANDOM:  Earlier this week, my H had to have professional photos taken for his firm's marketing materials, and he just sent me the proofs.  Some of them are hilarious.  Apparently they made him cross his arm and lean nonchalantly against a wall for a lot of the photos, like a high school senior portrait or a manly Glamour Shot.

  • can i go to france as your proxy? what are you going to do with your hairs? pic!

i have taken the advice that kitkatpattywhack and jens had about my eyebrows to heart, and i think over the weekend or soonish (husband works all weekend so it might be tricky with alison because i'm not comfortable with her running amok in a salon) i will get in to get them threaded. but for now the wooly bears are still in full effect. i also need to get a hair trim and/or a color job, preferrably before ali's birthday party.

randomly, the xm radio in my car and my husband's SUV works w/o having subscribed, and it is rad to be able to listen to satellite radio.

  • Tonight: Date night! Very excited.

Tomorrow: music class, cleaning up around the apartment, then one of us is going to go babysit for our friend who's babysitting for us tonight so he and his wife can go on a date. I'll probably work tomorrow night.

Sunday: I think we might go to the zoo.

Random: Will's favorite song is Clint Eastwood, by the Gorillaz.

  • We finally have a weekend off together, and H and I are going up north to my parents' cabin. I'm excited because I'm not bringing any work. We were supposed to go snowmobiling, but there isn't any snow so we'll probably just ice skate, watch movies, and eat. I'm planning on making a champagne cake on Saturday. It's also a dead zone for cell service and technology in general, and I'm kind of excited at being in a place where I can't check email or use the internet. I also found out last night that my submission for a conference in Boston was accepted, so I'm going to be there in late April. I only have like two more projects to finish at work, and then I won't have any more extra stuff to do until I'm done.
    We, we like to party.
  • I'm planning on buying a bottle of wine on my way home, I haven't had any all week so it's time to celebrate!  I'm working for a few hours tomorrow morning, then going to hang at a friend's house tomorrow night.  my H and I are planning on watching the rest of season 2 of Sons of Anarchy on Sunday, that's about it.

  • will has good taste! most of alison's favorite songs are still kid songs, but she is getting pretty cute about expressing her favoritism of her raffi/laurie berkener songs. "I LOFF this in the moon aikendwum music mommy!"

Ethan is still obsessed with Baba O'Riley but now enjoys a good headbanging session to The Hardest Button to Button by The White Stripes.

I truly believe his all time favorite is....Everybody's free to Wear Sunscreen by Baz Luhrman. It's the damn funniest thing I've ever seen. He starts cracking himself up and alternating tap dancing with booty shaking and laughing at the voice parts. I can't understand it.

I think getting your eyebrows done is a fantastic idea!  A friend of mind told me to do this back in college.  It was such a small thing but made such a huge impact on my appearance and confidence.  But we all know how vain I am.

We just got a new table for our living room delivered - yay!  Here's a pic:

imageIt's going in the corner of the room and will function like a game table.  We'll have to get some upholstered chairs to go around it.  Just some extra seating.  I'm kind of in love with it.

This weekend's plans include MC's birthday party tomorrow (yay!), dinner in the city tomorrow night at that place I posted yesterday (yum!) and all the usual errands/chores/etc.

    Fun times!

  • Tonight - Making a mad dash to the mall to get a gift and some cute outfit to wear tomorrow night.  After that's accomplished, I need to dash home to walk the very needy dog.

Tomorrow - Dog walk, 3 mile run and then a 3 hour drive for a friend's engagement party.

Sunday - 3 hour drive home and hopefully not much else.

  • Oh la la! Where in France? Jealous!

We are going to a pajama party at Alex's school tonight. Friday nights have reached a new level of awesomesauce!  Do I have plans this weekend? I have no idea, I don't think so. Am I talking to myself? Yes, yes I am...

    My randoms are as follows:

The curbside Christmas tree removal people never picked up our tree, so it's just laying out on my front lawn in all its yellowed glory right now. It's becoming a part of my landscape, if I don't think about it too much it just looks like a shrub and I fear I'll miss it if they ever take it away.

My birthday present from Pete came today, he got us the Rosetta Stone to learn Greek. Pretty excited, actually! I've wanted to try the RS program and I think this will be great to have for the whole family. All I know how to say is Hello, doll, and Christ has risen. Actually, that might just be enough to get me through the whole trip. "Hello, doll. Christ has risen!"

    What else, what else...

I think that's it. I need to go pick out our pajama OOTD, I don't think I can slap them in their Christmas pj's at this point. The horror! Can you even imagine what all the other mothers would think? :p

  • Let's see. Today's my first Friday of work. I came in at 10, and am leaving at 2 to get my first shellac manicure. And I've done pretty much no work since being here. Hooray! Tonight we have dinner for my FIL's 70th birthday. blah.

Tomorrow I'm meeting up with a friend for an afternoon drink and catch up. We may have a sitter tomorrow night, if we do Mike's got something secret planned he won't tell me about as a date.

Sunday, nothing much. Gym, grocery, laundry, kid time.

    image Ready to rumble.
  • We somehow managed to get two babysitters this weekend, so we're going out to eat and then loaf around town tonight and to do some furniture shopping and see a movie tomorrow. I feel so lost with all of this free time to plan.

  • november, the sad thing is that i got them done a few months ago, and thought i was maintaining it okay, but i guess they've been getting a little native lately. self delusion is strong! i frequently think i need a ladystyling mentor. i didn't have an older sister.

  • I love that table, Nov!

I just impulse-bought a ticket to the Pompeii exhibit at the Museum of Science tonight and I'm going by myself. At first I was bummed because some of my friends are going tomorrow and I can't go, but now I'm kind of excited about going by myself.

It's supposed to snow tomorrow. Like, hardly anything, but a let down after how mild this winter has been. I feel like it should be late March/early April so I'm kind of like "COME ON, REALLY??" about it before I come back to reality and realize it's still only the first week of February.

Husbands should be like Kleenex: Soft, strong, and disposable.
  • Hezz - We have RS for Japanese and my H and I were learning it together and I thought it was pretty good.  It's hard sometimes understanding the idiosyncracies of the language though.  Like in Japanese they had multiple ways to say a number and we didn't understand the difference and when we should be using one vs. the other.  They also have some weird choices of phrases like learning to say "I am not a doctor" before ever learning the word for bathroom which I think would be more helpful for travellers.

Tonight we're getting a liquor cabinet delivered and I am very excited.  It means more room in our pantry and cabinets plus having the wine out of little grabby hands.

Also we're doing our traditional Valentine's day thingy this weekend.  Homemade lasagna.  Yummy.  I am also going to be attempting making the ricotta myself and am very excited.

  • I woke up this morning and decided to take a mental health day because I've been feeling like crap.  About an hour after waking up I nodded my head in response to a question from Fran and I threw my back and neck out.  I can barely move so I may be spending the weekend flat on my back.

Sunday I'm supposed to go to BRUs with my friend to help her register, then go to dinner at a friend's house.  We shall see.  Fran leaves for nine days in Miami on Monday so I've got to get myself healthy.

  • Going to Wegmans tomorrow! Also dinner at our favorite beer bar. Sunday probably nothing. Cleaning, maybe. Our house is a mess.

Random: last night at happy hour our favorite bartender was telling us about some creepy 70 year old dude that hits on her all the time. One year for Christmas he wrapped a cucumber with a battery in it and made her open it in front of the whole bar. WTF. I can't believe they didn't throw him out. What an ass.

  • Weekend plans: Tonight, nothing. Tomorrow is the "grand opening" of the gym I've been going to and I want to go because some ultimate fighters will be there. Oh, and some football guy named Vincent Jackson, but he's a jerkface so I don't care much about him. Then, date night! Sunday: no plans, but if I were to receive a message from Noisy requesting that I hear Will's zoo animal descriptions I wouldn't complain.

Random: I left the headlights on my car on twice this morning. I don't know where my brain was when I parked, but apparently it was not in my head.

  • Hello doll!  I am not a doctor!  I love your table Nov.  I had a good snort at HT's husband's glamour shots.  But the amount of time you have to spend working bums me out man.  All my T&Ps are yours.  Let's see...pretty low key weekend here.  Going to a meeting for a charity I work with tonight.  And going to visit my friend who just had a baby and do crafts while we watch Downton Abbey.  Other than that it's my standard weekend shtick.  Gym, cleaning, grocery shopping, probably some cooking.

  • The boots that I ordered the other day just arrived. The color is spot on what I had hoped it would be, the fit feels great, but I'm just meh on the style. Of course, they had all the filling in the boot for the picture on the website, but on a real leg, the leather isn't nearly as stiff as I would like. The top part of the boot slouches down around the ankle and it's pretty loose. There's a little heel, and it's not like I can't walk, but it doesn't feel as supported in the ankle as I was hoping for. Damn it, but they were on sale! I feel like I have to keep them because of the price and the color, but the responsible, yet ulterior-Frye-boot-lusting-motive, says to return them so I can justify buying the mythical, perfect boot when I see it.

I was going to include a pic, but I'm still wearing my running pants complete with crotch sweat. That pretzel move to include the boot in the shot would look most unpleasant. Yeth.

  • Additional random after reading the others: I named my cat Raffi when I was little because I loved "Baby Beluga" like no other.

  • OMG Bob! That is disgusting!

I am going to Paris. But we compromised and I only need to be there for 2 days.

This is my plan for the hairs, minus the bangs and color:

  • Nothing. We are both sick. I want a babysitter just so we can lay around and do nothing. Ugh. I have laryngitis though so I plan to sing some Melissa Ethridge this weekend.

I went to pay my fine for not taking defensive driving in time (remember this?). Anyway, they set a court date for Valentine's night but I could just pay beforehand in mail or person. So I decided to go pay in person to make sure it was done. But the cashier convinced me to talk to the judge, even though I felt like i had no real reason to have not done it. Except maybe that they still had my maiden name listed which is why I think I never got it. but still I should have called and followed up I know.

Anyway, of course the judge just told me to pay the fine, so I wasted an hour when I should have just paid the cashier. But, court is kind of interesting, even in the daytime. All I can think about now is wanting to go back all afternoon and sit and watch people.

  • baby shower Saturday, errands and crap SUnday.

I need a REAL weekend.   Like sleep in, lounging afternoon with a 2 hours shower/primp time and going out for dinner.

  • Weekend: Dinner with an old friend tonight.  Regular cleaning/shopping/kid playing for the rest of the weekend.  Supa exciting.

Kid random: Much to my dismay, Andy's favorite band seems to be AC/DC (thank you very much Megamind).

  • The in laws are in town this weekend, so they are picking me up from the train station to get maximum granddaughter time.  We'll order in dinner with them, A and I will run around after that getting everything ready for MCs birthday party tomorrow morning.

Over the course of the last two nights, I made cake pops for the party.  They turned out pretty cute, although I did have some cracking.  They are super duper sugary.  Big thanks to Coley for great suggestions on technique.

Sunday we'll do breakfast with the inlaws and then we have to drive out to long island for another bday party.  Followed by doing as little as humanly possible.

I'm more excited for Wednesday and my encounter with Anthony Bourdain.

I love court.  Any court.  It's always entertaining trying to figure out peoples' stories.  I am not a fan though, when they march the dudes in orange jump suits through the hallway (in state court, that is.  Federal court has their secret hallways to transport people who are detained).
