Can dog gas kill you? And PIPs! (new addition)

So here are a couple of pictures of our new dog! We decided to name him Bailey. I am super excited to have him and am thinking of perhaps learning agility with him. He has kennel cough right now, but it's sounding better today and he's been on anti-biotics and all.

I think I may have switched his food way too fast because holy crap can this 26lb little guy stink up the house! He's sitting by my feet right now and reeks.

  • Very cute! I'm pretty sure dog gas can't kill because I'm still alive and that alone should be proof enough! Wink One of ours tends to be gassy where as our other one never has gas. Same breed, fed same food, same everything and that's just how they are! What food did you switch him from and to?

He was on Bil Jac dry (pretty much corn and liver) to TOTW.

  • Well TOTW is a great food, a lot of us on here use it (including myself). I would stick with that for awhile so his body can adjust and if he's still having gas issues then slowly try a different variety of TOTW. It could be the protein in the variety you are using makes him gassy.

I have pugs, which tend to be a little on the gassier side anyway because of how they breath and can intake excess air but I've found when our gassy girl has a bone to chew on (nylabone, bully stick or antler) she is gassier because she takes in even more excess air when chewing on something like that. So if he chews on bones a lot that could be contributing to his gassiness (firefox is telling me that's not a word Stick out tongue).

And finally, still talking about my gassy girl, she tends to get gassier when we are in a different location (even places like my in-laws, parents or sibling's homes that she knows well!) or when we have people over. It's very embarrassing but what can you do?! So give him some time and maybe his system will settle and relax and you can then take your gas mask off! Smile

  • My pit mix had horrendous gas when we first adopted him, likely b/c of the hard switch from whatever his foster mom was feeding him to Nature's Domain grain free Salmon and Sweet Potato (now he's on their turkey/sweet potato flavor).  Thankfully after a month or so things settled down and now he's only gassy every now and then, and usually when he's lying on the couch with his butt six inches from my face while I sleep.
  • He looks awesome! Looks like he has a mane!

As for the gas - our Jasper is SUPER stinky and can clear a room. If dog gas can kill you - I give my H and I another year and we'll be gonners!

  • What a cutie! No advice on the doggy gas. We have kitties and only one of them had toxic gas as a kitten. It got better with better food and as she got older.
