When we lived in MI the first time we had State Farm for our auto/renters ins. When we moved to TX we transferred our policy and had State Farm for 2 years. Every month our bill varied. Sometimes it was only $2-3, other times it was as high as $25-100 depending on what "policy adjustments" they made. Our agent never could give us a straight answer, so we shopped around and found AAA was cheaper. For two years our premium was the same amount monthly and we had no problems.
On Dec 16 I switched our insurance back to State Farm (in MI). AAA was almost double here and we previously had no issues with State Farm in MI. Since I switched back we have had nothing but issues. They canceled DH on the policy twice (but fixed their mistake) because they were getting his driving record confused with his dad, they canceled our auto-pay because they lost the paperwork I signed authorizing it. Our premium has been different each month (always higher) for one reason or another.
Our agent called again today and said that we were going to be getting a bill that was going to be twice what our monthly premium should be, but to disregard it. She caught the error and fixed it and would be drafting an amount close to what our normal premium would be, but still slightly higher.
I'm super irritated. I find it annoying, but can deal with a $1-5 difference each month. Having absolutely no idea until I get the bill is unacceptable IMO. How long would you give them to fix their errors before you shopped around again and found a different insurance company? The agent yesterday said that things should be fixed now and that our March premium should be normal. I'm not sure that I trust what she's saying though and I'm waiting for something else to happen. How long would you wait?
Re: How many mistakes are too many? (kinda long)
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and used against you. My Blog
I agree. Then you can throat punch and run.
I'm super irritated. I know our agent and was super happy with our coverage/service before we moved, but our agent in Texas was a flaming moron. I actually got a check a few weeks ago from State Farm of Texas for $300 for two years worth of discounts they never gave us and didn't realize until we switched back and they reinstated our policy.
Ugh. I HATE shopping for insurance. Hate it.
