Where to Go?

I need help! DH and I want to go on vacation in early October 2012. We are looking to spend no more that $1800. The problem is we have no idea where to go. The only thing that we are sure of is that we want to relax and get tan. Does anyone have any ideas? We would be leaving from the Chicago/Milwaukee area. We are not opposed to leaving the country but we don't want to do anything that is overly family oriented (ie...Disney, Seaworld, etc.)

Re: Where to Go?

  • Florida (Miami, Fort Lauderdale, etc) would be my first suggestion. I would also recommend Los Angeles, San Diego, Arizona (Sedona, Tucson, etc). With destinations in Florida keep in mind that it is still hurricane season in October. I would also recommend Mexico, but not sure if $1800 would be enough to cover flights plus hotel/food/sightseeing.
  • That would be a perfect time to go to San Diego if you have never been. There's lots to see and do.

  • We did San Diego last Oct.  I loved it, but honestly you won't be sitting at the beach every day.  The ocean was cold, but there were many days we were in shorts and plenty warm.  There is a ton to do there though.

This Oct- we're flying into Ft. Lauderdale and driving down to the Keys.  Yes it's hurricane seasons, but we'll get trip insurance and won't worry about it.  From what we've read it should be warm and nice! We've found going in Oct helps with the cost- airfare is cheaper as well as rental cars and lodging.

  • If you want to relax and get a tan in October I would recommend the carribean area with your budget, but like pp said it is still hurricane season. However, during that time is one of the cheapest times to visit the carribbean/mexico area, and you could probably do it within your budget. You could definitely get a cruise for cheap too. Not sure how risky you want to be, but do get travel insurance if something happens... thay way your covered either way.
  • Have you considered traveling to Boston? It might not be the place to get tan but the fall foliage is beautiful! Massvacation.com has an array of info about Massachusetts vacations and a variety of places to visit!
