Simple recipes for a new cook?
I have been existing on microwaveable meals and fast food for the past year and I have decided that I need to break that habit. I want to start eating a little healthier and I'm sure that being able to cook my own meals would help. However, I have not had much practice at cooking meals. I am a decent baker so I can follow a recipe but without one I am lost. Anyone feel like sharing their easy recipes to help me get started? Thanks in advance :-)
Re: Simple recipes for a new cook?
congrats on wanting to start cooking!! be prepared for some failures along the way (make sure your local pizza place is open LOL) but be prepared to amaze yourself at what you can do as well!!
for me the one thing that helped me more than anything was to read and re-read and re-read again all of the ingredients and instructions of a recipe before i attempted it and then to set evrything up. to know what i had to do, what I needed (as far as pans, measuring devices, spices etc...) and I would go down the list and pull everything out before i started cooking. premeasure the spices and line them up as per the recipe (go and buy yourself a few very small bowls at the thrift store or spice store-they make it so much easier), then put all of the containers away. it's much easier to cook effectively if everything is right there, in a row as you need to add them to the recipe, the area is clear of clutter and you can just add things as you go. also i'm a believer in putting a bowl in the sink for anything that has to go into the trash. makes clean up a snap.
other than that, depending on what you feel comfortable with as your ability, i suggest going to your library and helping yourself to a few cookbooks. hey. they're free! look through them, READ through them, become familiar with how recipies are written out etc... photocopy any that sound good and go home and cook them
good luck!!!
This is my after work tab with the quick & easy things I've made.
The first year of our marriage, my husband and I lived off of Ramen and frozen corndogs. Now I'm completely comfortable in the kitchen- you can do it!
How about
Salad with grilled turkey breast on top
Spaghetti with homemade tomato sauce
Any veggie soup is easy because all you need to do is boil veggies in stock, blend, add cream cheese and voila!
This turkey burrito recipe is so easy and delicious! I just cook everything together, makes a great freezer meal, too.
