Starting to panic about our LOs name...

When we first found out we were having a girl we discussed many names before deciding on Ella.  Another top choice was Elodie.  Now that I am so close to having this baby I am really thinking of using the name Elodie.  It has meaning to my DH and he has always loved the name.  One of the only reasons we decided against it was because of reactions from family.  If we do name her Elodie we could always use Ella as a nick name.

I guess we'll just decide when she arrives.  Thanks for letting me have my panic attack!

  • If it makes you feel better, we didn't decide on DD's name until she was 2 days old. We had a couple of names picked out, and wanted to see what fit her best. It's ok for her not to have a name yet! And FWIW, I like Elodie. I think it's cute.

  • I like Elodie.
  • I honestly wasn't sure even after we named LO :-) But now I'm totally happy and it fits her. I love Elodie and as the mama of an "Emmie," I will say that there are a ton of Ellas, Ellies, Emmas, Emmes, etc. etc. so I think having a longer name that she could also use might be nice as she gets older. Plus, I really think it's a lovely name and you should call her what YOU want :-)

  • Neither of our boys had first names until they were born. I had names I liked but DH wouldn't settle on anything until they were actually here. I think it's OK to wait and see what she looks like and then decide.

  • I prefer Elodie to Ella
  • When she is born and you look at her you will know and if she isn't an Elodie then you may choose to pick a different name. We chose G's name the night she was born and to us that's what fit her. I think I is common to feel this way about any name because you have yet to "meet" them. I like Elodie, not that it matters.

  • I like Elodie. Ella is a pretty name too but it's extremely popular.

  • I really like Elodie and I like the idea of having a formal name if you call her Ella.  Elodie also goes well with Claire.

  • We LOVED Emma but didn't want DD to be one of many Emma's in her class in school (as an Amanda, I was always 1 of 2 or 3 and didn't like it) so we went with Emmaline.  We call her Emma most of the time but she'll have the freedom to call herself whatever she wants later.  Something I didn't expect is pretty much everybody mispronounces Emmaline : (  Even family who KNOW how to say it, slip which is strange but, whatever.  We're still happy with it : )

    FTR, I LOVE Elodie : )

  • I also love Elodie

  • Before you posted this, I had noticed the "name tag" in your sticker and was thinking that Ella Claire is a beautiful, classic name.  I'd stick with it.
  • I like Elodie.

I also love Ella and wanted to use it but DH vetoed it and it is getting really popular.

  • My friend ended up naming her daughter Elodie, and while it was a mouthful at first, she's definitely growing into it and it's flowing much nicer now.  ;)  I think over time your family will definitely overcome their reactions to the name.
