Do you do your own taxes?

My mom has always done everyone in my families taxes for as long as I can remember. MH family always gets theirs done by a CA. Last year was the first time I sent my stuff in with mh, since we were filing as a married couple. He ended up getting back a boat load of money, and I ended up paying for the first time ever (and that was with school credits). I than had to pay the stupid CA $130. I refused to ever go that route again. I think she is way overcharging them and I still think I shouldn't have had to pay what I did.

So this year I am doing them myself. I have never done it before, but have seen my mom do it. I know its pretty straight forward, but do any of you have any tips? I believe I will be doing it at my neighbours with whatever program she uses (I need to find out which one it is) and I know that between her and my mom I should have all my questions answered. Any tips or suggestions for making this easier than it sounds would be greatly appreciated!

FIL did ours for years with a tax software, turbo tax I believe? The last 2-3 years DH has done ours now with the same program.

I have done mine online the last couple of years. Its really easy....and you just have to keep your copies of things, no more sending crap in!

I own a small business so I always get an accountant to do my taxes. They know all the tricks to make sure I pay the smallest amount back possible.
