SCR: Gardeners: Have you started planning your spring garden?

I'm just getting starting with the planning. I'm going to join a CSA this year, but I still want to plant a garden. So far I'm planning to plant: tomatoes, herbs, lettuce, and brussel sprouts.  I haven't decided what else.

What are your plans?

Re: SCR: Gardeners: Have you started planning your spring garden?

  • We do a container garden on our deck.  Herbs (basil, thyme, rosemary, sage, parsley), tomatoes and peppers (bell and jalapeno).

When I lived in my condo I had a container garden, that's what started my love of gardening!

  • Our spring garden bulbs were planted in the fall

They are already starting to bloom too.  I had a crocus bloom last week

We wont plant our veggie garden until Mothers Day just like last year

DH has a lot of pepper seeds he is going to try starting in March

We've had good luck with tomatoes, all peppers (sweet red peppers are the most frustrating though) cucumbers, eggplants, squash, herbs, I had some bush beans that did well but I didnt like the taste so I want a different bean,We had lots of melons in the summer but didnt think they were worth planting again.  The watermelons were small and full of seeds, and the honeydew didnt taste quite right.

    fall planted crops

spinach (this was planted for fall and we picked a bunch even last weekend), broccoli also a fall plant we had success,

brussel sprouts are the only thing that didnt come up for us at all.   Turnips were planted in fall but didnt come to a nice root size but the greens were great!

We arent doing any gardening right now though :)

  • I've been getting stressed about this, since it gets warm here a lot sooner than the rest of the country.  I could already be doing lettuce if I was more organized!

I plan to put pots of herbs on the porch.

I have a raised bed, and I want to plant peas and lettuce early, then tomatoes and jalapenos later, plus some butternut squash.

  • Thanks for sharing everyone!  I have some ideas based on your plans. Smile
