Bread machine recommendation?

Hi ladies,

I'm not a regular on this board- I'm normally over at the Bump.  I was wondering what brand bread machine you would recommend?  We have an Oster that just broke today and I use it at least once a week, so I'm looking for a replacement!

Thanks!

Re: Bread machine recommendation?

  • I recommend this no kneed bread and a Dutch oven if you don't have one already. I think I've used my bread machine once since discovering this recipe. http://www.aresrocket.com/bread/

  • I have to second pp's suggestion.  We used to have a bread machine and it made good bread.  Then we (really, dh) started making no knead bread and it's amazing.  So good, so easy, so cheap and more versatile than bread machine bread.  The book we use is  http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0312362919?ie=UTF8&tag=arbrinfimiada-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0312362919
and there is a website to go with it http://www.artisanbreadinfive.com/.  There are a few recipes and i think the basic method, too.  I'd give it a try before investing in another bread machine (unless you're set on that approach).

  • Thanks for the recommendations.  I actually have the Healthy Bread book and was using that method before I got my bread machine.  I do like being able to make a big batch to last a week or two, but the bread never came out as well as in the machine.  We live in a colder climate, so it felt like more work to have to warm up the oven to make it rise in addition to it never fully "fluffing" up like in the machine.  It's just so easy to throw everything into the machine and press a button!  :)

I wanted to say, I love this! I have a bread machine... that I have a love/hate relationship with, it makes some things really good, and some alway turn out terrrible (like my favorite whole wheat bread). I saw this post on Friday night, and mixed up the dough, using 1 cup ww flour to 2 cups bread flour and let it rise over night, punched it down and baked at about 6:00 saturday night for dinner....so good!
