Can you spare a day's coffee/lunch money?
Re: Can you spare a day's coffee/lunch money?
omg so sad! I just looked at that reece's rainbow website on her blog and it is heartbreaking!! HEARTBREAKING I was tearing up and had to shut it off.
How did you friend find this website? I have never heard of it before. I did see how some of the countries allowed Canadians to adopt but regardless the rules are stupid and its so sad....if someone wants to adopt a kid, it shouldn't matter where they live!!
IDK how she came across it - Want me to ask?
Orphanages in eastern europe are just terrible. and they're OVERRUN with special needs children because of Chernobyl's explosion causing birth defects and the high amounts of radiation still present in some areas. Also, most people there can't afford to care for a kid who needs a surgery or isn't capable of working a field or taking on the family business, so they wind up in an orphanage. Ukraine and Russia's orphanages are largely donation run by international organizations. Babies are fed the bare minimum of formula, and then at 4 months typically weaned onto a mashed gruel type mix, something to fill their bellies but not feed their needs to grow strong.
It's also a hard area to adopt from because so many people see "rich americans" and take them for all their worth. Not the orphanage exactly, but the translator, drivers, etc... you have to pay off everyone you meet to get what you need. A friend adopted from Russia and it was required that they stay at a particular hotel.... and you have to be there for well over a month. Their bill was astronomical. The hotel knew they had no choice and could charge whatever they wanted.
Even the "healthy" kids from there are known for having severe psychological issues resulting from the scarce attention and love they received. It's pretty common that they have reactive attachment disorder, which can be debilitating to family life and disrupt every part of every day with no end in sight- and you can't tell this before you get home and the kid starts to bond to you. All of these things contribute to few people wanting to adopt and going with other countries.... leaving these kids there until they age out and get turned onto the street.
probably because they're mostly ultra conservative catholic nations as a whole, and unmarried parents stray from the norm. Even though these children are basically treated as if they are garbage thrown away, they are viewed as pieces of their country and gifts to anyone from outside the country. it's twisted and backwards. i really think that anyone who wants to adopt a child- in any country- at any age- single, married, gay, straight- should be given the child so long as they pass background checks and home studies and have the financial means to provide adequately. people need to just cut the crap and do what's right.
Jen said she came across this child through another blog she reads.
Thank you for your support!
I was looking at one in Maryland. That's THIS country. lol
