Sinus yuck going around

Urgh!  I have been yuck for 3 weeks. Just started z-pack #2. It actually seems worse not better. Anyone else have this? What are you taking?  Is it helping?

Re: Sinus yuck going around

  • Try it while pregnant. Mine is more in my chest, although it has worked its way into my nose this morning.  I'm keeping rrr from sleeping so I will probably be (not) sleeping in the guest room for many more days to come.

My PCP is in spring, practically in the woodlands, (closest one in my ob's network), and I have no desire to drive up there. This morning I've been reading about how just because I'm coughing up yuckiness does not mean I need antibiotics, so maybe your z-pack isn't working because you don't need them either.  Tracey's 3 year check up is tomorrow and she's getting it too. We'll see what her doctor says.

  • YES. It's awful. Mine started last Thursday, got better by Monday then it hit me again and bad on Tuesday. I finally went to the doctor on Friday. I am still blowing my nose way too much and finding too much green crap in there.
  • Agreed on the antibiotics not being able to help with regular sinus issues. Antibiotics can, however, help if the yuck develops into an infection.  I've never had much luck with the z-pack when that occurs.  If you do need antibiotics, you may want to try something else.  I rarely get infections, but DH does, and he goes straight on the Levaquin.  It works very well, but is strong, so you will need to be eating yogurt while taking.

  • Most of what is going around right now is viral, so antibiotics won't help.  We're all getting over RSV here.  It's going around and effects everyone differently.  I have boy/girl twins and my boy just had a cough and runny nose, my girl... she was hospitalized and put on oxygen to breathe.  Most older kids and adults that get it just get cold symptoms, but it is a virus and will go away on its own, but the doc at the hospital said its lasting longer than normal this year, 3+ weeks to get over it.  Hang in there!

  • i am going to the doctor tomorrow. yesterday it felt like the onset of bronchitis and i freaked out. i cannot afford to be in bed for 3 weeks again, esp with DH OOT for most of the next month. my mom is here now and last night i took an Ambien and slept hard and today i feel more like it's  ahead/chest/sinus thing than bronchitis. anyway, i would suggest not worrying about the zpack and getting some steroids instead.

  • I've got it, too. Started last Wednesday, hit  me hard on Thursday (fever, aches, etc so I thought it may be flu), but then landed in my chest. Body felt better by  Friday but my chest is still a bit cruddy and my head/sinuses have gotten no better. Most of the output from my head is clear. Ugh. DH started to get it last night. Fingers crossed my kids don't!

  • Agree with the others, unfortunately what you've got is probably viral so the antibiotics aren't going to do anything.

I've had one cold after another since Christmas.  Everytime I start to get better DS comes home from school with a runny nose.  He has the sniffles for a few days but when I get it it's like some new form of the plague.  DH never gets sick, which I'm grateful for, but geez life is so unfair.

My big boy is bounding towards 3! Hoping to add a sibling. image Hipster dog is not impressed.
  • It moved to my ears and I have a raging ear infection, hence the antibotics.  I'm feeling better today.  Hopefully, this crap will clear in the next day or 2.
  • The girls and I have been fighting it for the last week. Like you Abby's moved into her ear. Fun times!
