I was guilted into throwing a baby shower for our bus-girl here at the restaurant, (who's 16). One of the waitresses was going to do it but ended up moving away & no one else has offered & now she's 7 weeks from her due-date. Her family is very very poor & when I asked her what she still needed she said "Everything. I haven't bought a thing".
I was hoping to come up with an activity/craft project that would actually be helpful in some way to her, in lieu of games...
I don't know how much help onesies are (if we were to decorate them). I would really like to provide something useful but can't think of anything neat.
There will be about 30 people at the shower I believe.
Does anyone have any ideas? TIA:)
Re: i need baby shower activity ideas please!
not really an activity/craft - but we've done either diaper or book showers - everyone brings a book in lieu of a card. or bring a pack of diapers and you put their name in a drawing a give away a door prize.
you could also do a "time of day" shower - kind of a take off on weddings. so for bedtime they might get blankets, sheets, miracle wraps, pjs, mid-day: activity mat, clothes, bottles, rattles, etc...
We played "memory" at one shower. The host made a diaper cake and pinned a bunch of stuff to it - pacis, little toys, diaper cream, lotion, stuff like that - and then everyone had one minute to look at it then write down everything they could remember. The mom-to-be got to keep the diaper cake and all the stuff, and the winner got a $10 Starbucks card. Cute, not obnoxious and the mom got lots of stuff.
The girls that hosted mine did a diaper raffle too (totally optional) - if you brought a pack of diapers, you got entered into a drawing for a gift card. I ended up with a TON of diapers. It was great.
No more baby siggie pics. Boo.
Thanks for the great ideas:)
She's having a boy, so the super cute idea to make girls accessories won't work but I'm going to store it away for the next girl shower!
We did onesies at the shower I hosted recently, which was fun (not sure how useful it is, but people enjoyed it, and some were super-creative). We also asked guests to bring a children's book in lieu of a card with their gift. Another idea that we didn't end up using was to assign guests to a certain age of the first 2 years, so mom didn't end up with only newborn stuff, and people would buy weather-appropriate clothing and gear for the whole first year.
GL- I hope that you guys are able to come up with some good things.
I've been to showers where they decorated with onesies. Just hang a clothesline and pin some cute onesies to it.
There's always the diaper cake or the diaper shower where you ask everyone to bring a pack of diapers
Or you could put together freezer meals as an activity
