Hey everyone,
We brought our Samoyed puppy home on Friday. So far things are going very well. She did great at the airport and slept the whole flight. She is very energetic and playful and is enjoying her toys - although ignores a few of them. She is so snuggly and ridiculously cute. The first night when we put her in her crate she barked and whined for a while but quickly settled down and slept through with no accidents. Last night she went in the crate with less barking, woke up and whined at 230 so I took her out to potty which she did, and then went back in the crate no problem. During the day the house-training is going OK. We've had a few accidents but are getting better. We've been trying to take her out every hour during the day. I think our timing has been off a few times b/c about ten minutes after we take her out she has had an accident. Any advice on this would be great. Our cats have done surprisingly well. Marshmallow accelerated our introduction plan and barged into the kitchen to try to share puppy's food. She's been staying in there for most of the day and puppy will follow her around and try to bite her tail but Marshmallow will put her in her place with a bam to the nose. Chup has been hanging back but curious. Tomorrow is our first vet trip!

Yay, congratulations! I'm so happy for you. She is very cute.
Instead of just trying to take her out every hour, I would make sure that you are following her cues. Puppies usually need to go out right after they eat (which at this age should be 4 meals a day), right after they drink, and right after they wake up from a nap. The other thing that you have to consider is play time. If she runs around and plays for a bit inside, she is going to need to go out. Usually I would try to go out right after a nap, then play for a bit, but go back out again. Very young puppies go frequently so even if you go out, she potties, and then come back in to play hard for 20 minutes she might need to go out again. You will start to pick up on this the longer you are with her and she has just gotten home so she hasn't gotten settled yet either. Don't be too hard on yourself, she will learn quickly.
I found for housetraining teaching him how to tell me to go out early really helped.

Thanks for all your responses! She is quite adorable.
TheLinkBride - thanks for your advice on housetraining. We will try to do better at reading her cues. Right now it seems like if we take her out immediately after she eats or drinks, she won't go, but then might have an accident about 20 min later. So I guess we just need to work on the timing. It's also raining here which I think has been a little distracting for her. She is doing really well. For a brief moment we had both cats and the puppy up on the couch last night which I thought was a good sign. Here's a PIP of Marshmallow, the puppy, and me.
