You definitely want to get your CNA first. Like Meg.eliz, it's making things a lot easier. Plus, I was able to get a job in a hospital and I learn something new every time I work. It's also made me realize that this is what I am absolutely meant to do.
Go to DORA's website and look up NCLEX scores for the schools you're interested in. http://www.dora.state.co.us/nursing/education/RN-PassRates.pdf. If they don't have a decent pass rate, skip them.
Realize that there are wait lists for associates programs. I haven't checked in a while, but the last I heard the wait was 2-3 years. You can only be on one wait list. Another good reason to get your CNA. If you already have a bachelor's degree, check out second degree programs. It may be faster to go that route than to get the associated degree, but it's also extremely competitive.
Also, the job market is really tough for new grads right now. There are a ton of programs in Colorado, which means there are more new grads out there than there are new grad positions.
I'm fried right now so I can't think of anything else at the moment. Just do your research to make sure you pick a school that fits you and that this is what you really want to do.
