Hi ladies,
I'm posting an update about our baby Riley. I trusted my gut and we took him back to the vet yesterday because something just seemed off. I am so glad that I did! He was actually running a fever and the vet said he was dehydrated. They kept him all day and kept giving him fluids. That fortunately broke the fever. We brought him home last night but the vet said she wanted to see him again today.
Today he had no fever, was sufficiently hydrated and a urinalysis showed that UTI had cleared up, but she was concerned because his bladder felt thicker and larger than it should. She said it could be a virus, or it could be stress related (he is the anxious type). She did x-rays to make sure he didn't have a blockage or urinary stones and thankfully he didn't. She is keeping him on antibiotics for 2 weeks and she also sent him home with some anti-inflammatory medication. She also said that he is probably going to be sensitive to this sort of thing for his liife so he's now on a prescription diet.
So he's not totally out of the woods yet (he goes back next Sunday for a recheck) but she said he seems much better than this time last week when we first took him in for the UTI. She is convinced that my being out of town for a week recently was what set this in motion (Riley is more attached to me than he is to DH). He is now on anti-anxiety medication to hopefully keep this from happening again because obviously I can't be around 100% of the time. I am also going to purchase a Feliway system for him and place it in the area he frequents the most.
Do you ladies have any other tips or suggestions for dealing with a cat with anxiety issues? His mother was completely feral (she was eventually TNR) so he has always been a bit odd/quirky. But obviously I want to give him the best environment I can. He is such a sweet and beautiful boy. TIA!

Re: Update: my cat Riley w/UTI.....also a question
5 cats. 1 baby.
I just wanted to say that your Riley looks SO much like my Riley (but yours has way tuftier ears/longer whiskers). Mine crossed the Rainbow Bridge several years ago, but he's always in my heart.
I hope your Riley starts feeling better soon and isn't so anxious with all the great measures you're taking. Adding the fountain and wet food to get more moisture into him can definitely help promote future urinary/bladder/kidney health.

Thanks for the advice ladies! We have recently added a water fountain to encourage all the cats to drink. I also keep a regular water bowl around too. I think Riley may actually prefer the regular bowl. I guess he's old school despite only being two....lol.
The vet gave us a a UT prescription food that we can get in both canned and wet, so we have recently added vet food to his diet and will continue going forward. Actually we are transitioning all of our cats over to a diet of dry/wet. The vet said the dry food will make Riley thirsty which will encourage him to drink.
