DD #2 will be 21 mo next week and I'm unsure if she is developing her verbal skills properly. DD#1 was very advanced verbally when she was young, so I feel like I don't know what "normal" is.
As of now my 21 mo babbles a lot and will repeat words fairly regularly. Like yday, I started saying ball to her and within a couple minutes she said ball. Same thing happened with the word sorry. Still, I notice that she doesn't "carry through" with her words - like she'll say a word, but then she could go days or weeks before she says it again.
She was also later to crawl and later to walk than DD #1, but fell within the normal ranges. I've heard there can be a burst of verbal between now and 24mos, so I'm think I should just wait till her 2 yr appt. What do you think?
Re: Language development for 21mo
How does she generally communicate her wants or needs? Does she point alot? Does she say one word? do you anticipate her needs and and she doesnt' really need to speak?
Like if she wants a drink of milk, what will she do or say? and do you always need to prompt her to get her to say it to get it. Like does she only point to the cup and you say, want cup or does she say one or two words together on her own?
