so, it's been a little over three weeks since the surgery and he's been home for 2. it's been a very long two weeks - but i'm getting used to it. only because DH did A LOT around the house and now it's all falling to me. i'm too lazy to run a household by myself. haha.
DH is starting to get around better on his own and not soley relying on me to get him a drink or whatever else. but i have to say - he's been a good patient. doesn't whine, complain, b!tch...it's been good.
this past weekend was (in my opinion) a little milestone. we had a heart to heart on thursday and he was telling me that he is getting a little on edge staying on the couch and not having much to do. i totally understand!! so it was my mission to get him out of the house - as he felt comfortable. on friday night we went to barnes and noble for a little bit and then to my parent's house for dinner. just to get out. i think he enjoyed it - even if my mom got a little annoying. since DH had the surgery he's lost a lot of weight and was never a big guy to begin with. so my mom kept pestering us about what he's eating and what he should try. i expect it from her, but DH was about ready to leave 10 minutes after getting there.
HOWEVER, i think it got through to him. friday night he tried salmon and liked it! saturday, we went to georgetown cupcake and he was able to make his own taco bowl for dinner - taco meat mixed with sour cream and cheese! and yesterday he was able to eat pizza - cut up really small and spaghetti and meat sauce - cut up really small. small milestones - but made me really happy. and i know he was pleased that he's been able to branch out a little bit.
and he's starting to walk around a bit easier. he'll fatigue quickly, but that's expected. the road ahead is still a long one, but we're getting there. i can't believe it'll be a month from the surgery on thursday...it's gone by so fast...even if the individual days seem a bit long.
and our second follow up appt is on wednesday - looking forward to what they have to say.
Re: DH Update #2
I'm so glad to hear he's continuing to do well!! It must be frustrating after awhile to be cooped up and limited with foods and activities, so good for you for getting him out! And <sigh>, moms....lol. They mean well but sometimes you just need them to shut up!
Maybe you could trying going to a friend's house or something just for dinner and tv for a change of pace? I'm sure it's nice for YOU too to get out a little.

It sounds like he's moving in the right direction! How wonderful to have had such a nice weekend together, complete with milestones for him.
I can't imagine how rough this is for both of you. I hope you're able to get more time out of the house as you see continued improvement in his condition!
*hugs*
I'm glad to hear he's doing well with recovery!
Someone's getting a little brother!
