Oh crap, tomorrow is Valentine's Day

Do you get your DH anything?

If so, what?

I am out of ideas.

Re: Oh crap, tomorrow is Valentine's Day

  • I got DH a couple of books/magazines, updated his ipod with some new songs, a $25 iTunes giftcard and some Godiva Strawberry Chocolate truffles.  He's flying to Moscow Tuesday so it's kind of a combo Valentines/Keep busy on the flight gift - we don't usually do anything over the top for Valentine's Day.

  • Nope.  We just went to Toronto for a week, so that was basically our Valentine's.

    I realize this isn't helpful.

I owe you a pm, too.  Check later today, i've got some stuff to finish and then i'll write you.

  • No, we've got too much going on this week. Just cards. I don't even thing we'll get around to having a nice dinner until maybe Saturday, if that.
  • I asked DH if he wanted anything, and he said "Shoes" so he's getting a gift card to DSW.  Feel the romance.

My opinion on what dudes get for V-Day - they get laid (if they're lucky).  Stick out tongue

  • We usually go out to dinner, but DH is out of town until Wednesday. I was thinking of trying to send him something small where he is, but have no idea what to get him. I think he's sending me flowers, I saw him looking at flowers online a few nights ago.

  • Nope. We don't do Valentine's Day at all. We might have some wine (our Schramsberg shipment comes today!) but that's it.

    . . . this was unhelpful.

  • DH's birthday is wednesday, so i basically need to decide which gift will be for v-day. we go out to dinner, i usually take care of cocktails & dessert.

  • We don't celebrate in any big way. I asked him what he wanted, and he said a new scarf, so that's what he's getting. His big surprise is that he is also getting a bag of Swedish fish.
  • LOL.

Preissless - DH just threw out two pairs of shoes that had holes in the soles. He desperately needs new ones and won't buy them for himself. Methinks a gift card to DSW might be a perfect gift.

To complicate things, his birthday is Sunday.

  • DH buys me a box of chocolates, I buy him a bottle of wine, and then we split them both.  I was at the store a few weeks ago when he got my chocolates (although I managed to hold out until yesterday to begin eating them), and he picked out his own wine this weekend.  We're very romantic...

i always feel bad for the guys with birthdays so close to v-day. though i do always try to make DH's b-day really special.

Ha!  This is so weird... I am totally planning to get DH shoes for V-day.  LOL.

  • No, we've never exchanged gifts. I might get him a card if I have time. Aren't I romantic? Broken Heart

  • Also not helpful, but we are buying each other a house in Olney.Stick out tongue

I did surprise him by getting "him" some tickets to see Portlandia live at 9:30 next week. I get to go too (squeee)!

  • We exchange cards and normally something small. I got him Reeses chocolate hearts this year, and made him a coupon book (breakfast in bed, your choice of movie, etc.) The coupon book is easy to make and is always a hit.
  • We really don't do anything. Sometimes I get him a card and some candy, but I haven't yet this year. Every once in a while I get flowers, but not very often. My birthday is next week, so of course that adds to the laziness of DH!
  • Also not helpful, but we don't do much either.

We always do cards. He did get me flowers though last year, and I wasn't expecting it. And I got him a See's peanut butter chocolate heart last year and he wasn't expecting that.

Last night as I was elbows deep in cookie dough and stressing over the fact that the grocery store had NO BEEF of any cut or variety and had to change my menu for tomorrow, DH says, "When we first started dating, you told me that you didn't like Valentine's Day."

Yes, I said that. Also, I had literally been dating you less than two weeks when I said that ten years ago. I was playing the low-maintenance card! And you're just figuring this out?

  • Not helpful, but I got DH some new basketball shorts that were out of stock for Christmas. I also made him some cute cards on Shutterfly - one from me, one from our daughter. I've been hitting up the dollar sales at Safeway and have been putting random cheesy valentines in his bag for work for a few days. They usually involve candy and a really cheesy card. Tomorrow, he'll get the basketball shorts and some Sour Patch Kids (the only candy he really likes).
  • I was going to make these bacon roses but I ran out of time this weekend.  Normally, we just go out to dinner.

His birthday is 10 days after so he gets something big then!

those are amazing! i would save those as a b-day or anniversary idea since you didn't have time for v-day.

  • I am not helpful either. We just do cards. But, this post is making me feel better about our lack of Valentine's celebrating....

  • DH is getting a Kindle Fire so he can watch Netflix on the treadmill in our basement in the AM when he runs. Right now, he turns on the TV and watches movies but he needs the volume up so loud to hear over the tmill that it wakes the babies and I up two floors above. I'm hoping this solves the problem.

I have a feeling I'm getting whatever is leftover at CVS tomorrow. DH asked me this morning if it was okay if we celebrated tomorrow night and not gave each other anything during the day. This is DH code for, "I won't have time to get a card until Tuesday during the day."

  • I bought him candy.  I'd like a better connector for his ipod to the car but my car is in the shop and I wont be buying anything else
  • We just do cards. If he's really lucky he might actually get his anniversary card from... October. Embarrassed

Sometimes DH brings me candy or flowers but I told him not to bother with either this year.

  • Normally, we don't celebrate V-day.  But I had surgery last Monday and DH volunteered to work from home each day last week so that he could take care of me.  I wanted to show him how much that meant to me, so I hired a chef-friend of mine to come to my house (since I'm still house-bound) to cook a meal.  He put together a 5-course tasting menu...he's here right now cooking.  I can't wait to surprise DH when he comes home!
