Re: VD Poll #3 Favorite love story - non-romantic
For me it has to be Steel Magnolias. The mother daughter love in that movie, coupled with the Dad sobbing when Julia Roberts dies, plus all the love between the ladies, gets me everytime.
And Terms of Endearment, when Mom demands her daughter get her shot, and when Debra Winger says good bye to her kids...ugh.
Toy Story 3. The love between the toys, and the very end...
I am currently re-reading The Secret Garden, and that is also one of my favorite love-friendship-family stories.
Little Women is another one that I LOVE (the book, not the movie...)
Oh, and Les Miserables (again, the book, not the movie)
Mama's Gonna Buy You A Mockingbird
Terms of endearment and the 2nd one the Evening star.
I also like the movie stepmom, that one gets me everytime.
Rory and Lorelei. Their friendship as mother and daughter gets me every time.
Also the mother and son in the book, I'll Love You Forever.
Countless others..I am a sucker for relationships with mothers, fathers, and their kids.
Daniel and Sam in Love Actually. I bawl with their final hug at the airport... It's like their partnership about Sam's efforts heal them from losing the mom.
I adore Snape and his dedication to Lily Potter and, in turn, Harry and even Dumbledore in HP. That character alone is what escalated her the echelons of a really good author IMO.
