We have a vet appointment tomorrow, but I just thought I'd see if y'all had any opinions.
A couple weeks ago Mocha was having issues with his collar rubbing his neck. We took it off, and everything healed up. I only mention this because I have absolutely no idea if it's pertinent information at all.
In the last three/four days, Mocha has scratched/licked a line of fur off his back. A completely straight line, so I'm actually kind of impressed. But still.
He's also a lot clingier than he normally is. He never sits on anyone. He'll sleep next to you, etc, but never on you, at least not in the five years that I've had him. But, three times in the past two weeks he's crawled into my lap, or slept on my side or back. It's just weird.
He's also old and it makes me sad.
I realize this is all over the place, but I'm tired.
I know the fur loss isn't fleas or anything contagious--none of the other pets have had any issues.
Thoughts?

Re: Please diagnose my cat...
Anxiety? Have you left him for a while recently? Did something maybe scare him? Has his diet changed recently?
We haven't left him recently. We had a foster cat over Christmas, but this didn't start until after the foster left.
I guess something could have scared him, but I don't know what it would have been? We've been doing some remodeling in the house recently, so things have been moved around. I didn't even think about that. He could be freaked out by all the change, I guess. He's usually so laid back though, and we've done renovation projects before and it's never bothered him.
We haven't changed his food. He's basically been on the same thing (California Natural) since we brought him home four years ago--we just rotate flavors, but we haven't tried a new one lately.
We tried, a few years ago, to switch them to TOTW grain free, but one of my other cats stopped eating in protest and ended up with hepatic lipidosis.
He was around 6 when we got him, so he's about 10 now.
