Moms, would you take her to the Dr?

G hasn't been sick since her adenoids came out last march. We toured daycares last week and on wednesday night she started to feel a bit icky. Her nose got really gross and we have been suctioning it 2-3 times a day. Started out clear and runny, now it is thicker and yellowish/green. Over the weekend she got a rough wet cough. ***TMI warning*** she has been coughing up chunky brownish mucous when she sleeps.

She doesn't have a fever, still eats, drinks, plays. I'm just not sure if I should let it go a few more days or take her to the Dr. today. Before the surgery I would be in the office ASAP getting her on meds. Now I don't now how to handle this.

  • Yellow/green/brown mucus means that her immune system is working- white blood cells are what makes those *lovely* colors. Considering that she doesn't have a fever and seems to be feeling fine, I would just leave her alone. It's likely a cold/virus, and what she's coughing up is postnasal drip that accumulates while she's sleeping. Try using some Vicks or other vapor rub and a humidifier. HTH! Poor sickie, they are so pitiful when they're sick!

  • I probably wouldn't today, maybe if it is still there in a couple days.
  • I wouldn't take her.  Sounds like a cold virus.  Doc cant do anything for it.  We all have had it over here, including baby.  It's a long cold, sticks around 2ish weeks.  No fun, but not doctor worthy.

  • I wouldn't, considering she's not too bothered by it.

That's kinda what I was thinking. I am so overly cautious because of last winter. I will give her a few days and hope things clear up.

    Thanks ladies.
