Can anyone tell me about tubes in ears?

Leo has had double ear infections since December.

We have to meet with an ENT and discuss tubes.

He has had four rounds of anitbiotics and nothing has worked....I am a little nervous. Ok, a lot. If your kid had them, did it work or fix the ear infections??? And how was it putting them under anesthesia?? Leo is 13 months old.

No thanks, I don't need child porn or Tweets from this site---thanks for the memories nesties---RIP, Franco---2004--2012.

Re: Can anyone tell me about tubes in ears?

  • Mikey was 11 months when his went in and it was easy peasy- he was under but not really under, they don't intubate them, he was in and out in 15 minutes. He did not have any more ear infections or fluid until December and then he had a single ear infection- but it was treated with drops and he had an awful cold for a few weeks at that point-

We did it cause I just didn't want to keep giving him antibiotics and the fluid never went away, so I was worried about his hearing.

  • W had chronic ear infections in both ears from February - June. He had his tubes done in July and until last week wasn't sick once.

I'm not gonna lie, the anticipation is a thousand times worse than the actual surgery or recovery. He was done in 20 minutes and just really upset in recovery. He cried the whole way home but once we got here and he ate something he was fine. I mean FINE. He went to the park later in the day with J.

It was absolutely worth it for us.

  • My daughter had them put in at 15 months. No big deal. She had a double ear infection for about a month afterwards (I think she had it going into the surgery, though). Now, 4 years later, we actually have to go in to have one of them removed. Figures! Someone on here recently said they'd recommend trying chiropractic for ear infections-not sure who though. If I had the situation arise again, I think I would try that first...just to avoid the surgery (and the possibility of a second surgery). But we didn't have any problems at all with the tubes.
  • DS had them put in at 21 months... In less then a year he had six ear infections with one which took three rounds of antibiotics. Plus he was running very high fevers with the ear infections 104-105.

I was so nervous but it worked out well. It was a super short surgery where they had him drink a solution to put him an advanced groggy state and inserted the tubes. The recovery from being under was interesting but we all survived the two hours of craziness he experienced after coming out of the surgery... Some kids react violently and punch and scream after the surgery we had a middle of the road version of this and it was strange to see DS inconsolable but about two hours later and a good nap he was up and literally running around.

Three months after the surgery and no ear infection he has had a few colds and the croup but it has not traveled to his ears.

Good luck it is a hard decision but for us it has worked out!!
