Nursing moms- anyone do WW?

I've accepted if I ever want to fit in my pants I need to go back to WW. Did anyone do it while nursing? I have a ton of points- 40!! Did you lose eating that much? Did it affect your milk supply?

I'm very familiar with WW- I am lifetime and worked there in college after losing my weight... but 40 points, when all fruit/veg is 0 points, seems like a lot. My #1 priority is keeping my milk supply though so I'm mostly worried about that.

Re: Nursing moms- anyone do WW?

  • I tried it when I was nursing L, but my supply started tanking. It wasn't enough calories for me. I'm pretty sure that I had 34 points each day at the time........

  • yes, and my supply was fine, provided I ate my points and drank a lot of water. A LOT OF WATER! Remember nursing burns like 500 calories a day- so that is pretty much the extra points, and you go down to only 7 extra when you add in solids-

That's my fear... the plan changed recently and the point allotments are much higher.

Did your supply come back when you ate more?

  • I didn't, but I will this time. My friend did it and it helped her supply! I guess bc she was eating a more balanced diet. I think she had 36 pts? Just make sure you eat all your points and your weekly ones too! I can't wait to start it after this baby.

  • I am currently EBF and joined WW 3 weeks ago. So far I've lost almost 7 lbs and my supply is fine. Some days I don't eat all the extra points, and some days I dip into the extra (BF makes me really hungry). I am also lifetime and only have about 17 lbs left to get back there.
  • I did it last year and had the same as you, like 40 points.  Seemed like a ton!  But it did work and my supply was fine.  I lost about 15 pounds on WW nursing program.
  • I did it starting after my 6 week postpartum dr appt & was back to my lifetime weight (10 lbs. less than my pre pregnancy weight) by the time he was 5 months. I ate all of my points every day, sometimes it was hard especially with fruit being 0, i did eat ice cream or a cupcake on occasion but usually just got to my points by eating slightly larger portions (like one and a half cups of cereal for breakfast) or full fat cheese in my salads or sandwiches which I never would do on ww before. but I never felt deprived & my milk supply never suffered.

  • I'm not nursing anymore but was when I first went on it and had40 points and still lost.  Sometimes I couldn't eat all of the points but I tried to.  It did not affect my supply at all.  When I was weaning I got 33 points.  Now I only get 26 and it's hard!
