How do I tell if DD's cough is barky and not just dry? She started coughing last night, but it's gotten progressively worse today. Tonight she has a low grade fever, 102.3 at the highest, and the cough is worse. It sounds like her throat is pretty raw, but I don't know if it's 'barky'.
I'm not typically a Mom to take her to the pedi for every little thing, but I don't want to overlook it if it's something more. Ahhh, what to do, what to do!

Re: Barky Cough?
Have you called the ped doc yet about the fever?
That said, a fever isn't necessarily a bad thing; her little body is definitely battling something. A good ped will usually ask you to try home remedies and see if the fever naturally runs its course without getting into the danger zone (104 and into the 105 range, which is dangerous).
Try cool baths and light clothes, appropriate dose of kiddie Motrin alternating with tylenol at appropriate intervals, humidifier, and a spoon of honey periodically to ease the throat pain. But monitor the length and levels of fever... Typically if I'm getting into day 3 and it's still high, they want to see the kid.
Good luck, Momma!
I was going to say this as well.
Of course, google!! Why didn't I think of that. Now I'm sure we will be calling the peri in the morning, fever is still high and sounds like all the YouTube videos. Thank you ladies!!

I always equated a barky cough to a seal, but then I self-diagnosed DS with croup last year and the urgent care Dr. immediately recognized it as RSV with bronchiolitis. (OOPS!) I'd probably have it listened to if you are concerned, especially since it's combined with a fever.
