Has anyone gone to see them? Any tips? We r thinking of going and I know they supposedly bloom early April, but I'm wondering if it'll be earlier than that since it's been a mild winter
Re: Cherry blossoms in dc
They have a kickoff to the festival with a bunch of activities - it gets crowded so if you are going on that weekend, I'd recommend getting there EARLY. They're really beautiful - you can rent paddle boats on the water, too, which would probably be fun. I have a feeling they're going to bloom really early - we went 2 years ago the first week in April and they were all bloomed - it was the weekend of the festival and everything was already fully in bloom. It's a great time to visit DC, though - let me know if you want recs on where to stay or eat.
this year is the 100th anniversary of it. so its going to be crazy. a few weeks ago they said on the news that the national parks services said they will probally bloom march 20th. i'd imagine peak will be the following week. it all depends on the weather. if these mild trends continue. they will defenitly bloom on target if not earlier. and how long they stay around also depends on the weather. if we get a lot of rain or wind then they flowers will fall. but if it stays nice and mild and sunny they will last longer.
if you plan on staying in dc your probally going to pay a HUGE preminum during that time and hotels may even be scarce.
its my faveorite time of year around here. its really gorgeous.
