Clicky Poll (re: sick/vacation days)

I have a CW who had previously requested today off as a vacation day.  Yesterday she left early because she was sick.

This morning she called in sick and is expecting to get her vacation day back.

[Poll]

FWIW, our "sick policy" is basically, if you're sick, stay home, but there isn't a true policy or number of sick days we get each year.

  • I think it depends on how your sick vs vacation days work.  I've worked places where you  got "personal time" to be used for sick or vacation.  You got paid when you left the company for any PTO unused.  Now I work somewhere with separate sick and vacation, and you get paid for unused vacation time but not for unused sick time, so in that case I'd say they should be allowed to use a sick day.

We don't get "sick time" per se.  If I feel like crap, I call my boss and stay home.  NBD.  But this doesn't count against any time off.  PTO is use it or lose each year.  We don't get paid for any unused PTO.

  • My bosses and vacation time are so incredibly flexible, that it really doesn't matter where I work.  I think it would be nice if this was a valued employee for the employer to offer the day back as vacation...but not required.
