Daycare Treats - Homemade or Store Bought?

What is the rule at your kid's daycare/school?  Treats can be from home or they have to be bought?

Ours have to be bought.  Sometimes I like the convenience, but sometimes I really want to make something cute from Pinterest.

Re: Daycare Treats - Homemade or Store Bought?

  • Only rule is no nuts or peanuts.

  • I'm not sure and now I'm on the verge of an anxiety attack thinking how upset Tori will be if they don't let them eat the cookies she helped me make last night.

  • At Natalie's school here we can do anything. We just did homemade cookies for her birthday yesterday.

At the school she'll go to in Houston this fall, it has to be store bought, and they have a no nut rule.

  • No rules, we just have to check for allergies.

I did fruit for the party, and sent homemade cookies & bagged store-bought pretzels for his gifts.

    Same with us.

  • I am not sure. Good question.

I know I purchased valentine cards for all the kids and the other moms that I saw had little baggies for each child. I felt like I skimped on Kyle's Valentine gift to everyone. Sad

I just did not want to bring candy since they are still so young. I should have put more effort into it though.

  • Hmmm... our school doesn't really have a lot of food rules.  I've never sent anything homemade because I'm lazy and busy and stressed out.  Big Smile But I assume we can.  I know PB and nuts are ok, I asked about that.  Parents provide snacks for the class on a rotating schedule and I think those are supposed to be store bought but for birthdays and such I don't know.   I know I usually bake something for the bake sale in the fall and also for the teacher's luncheon that the parents association throws twice a year.

For Valentine's Day specifically the teacher's note said not to send treats because the class would be baking cookies for their special treat.

This.  I called my DC to confirm beforehand b/c I didn't want my cupcakes tossed!

  • There are no rules at our MDO.

  • We've had all over the board.

Her church MDO when she was little ~ could be homemade, but they were a nut and peanut-free school.

Her private school/daycare out in Pearland ~ nothing homemade.

Her current (private) preschool ~ no rules.  I've done homemade, and they are NOT nut/peanut free.

    This.

  • Pretty much anything goes at our MDO. There are signs on some of the classroom doors with allergy info, I've seen a couple of rooms that don't allow nuts. A little girl in DD's class is allergic to strawberries to I don't send anything with strawberries. But I've brought homemade cookies before and they ate them.

  • Church daycare and no rules on food. In fact, for the parties today the signup sheet asked parents to bring sandwiches, mac and cheese, jigglers, etc - stuff that would pretty much have to be homemade.

  • Evan is almost 2 and this was the first event where they told us we couldn't bring homemade treats. I guess I'll need to double-check since his birthday is in a few weeks.

  • Storebought and sealed.
  • Store bought.

But I'm wondering if it's just "store bought if we serve it in class" because L brought home some homemade goodies from school in her Valentine's Day box. I was bummed, I would have rather sent pretty frosted shortbread cookies rather than the rainbow layer crayons.

  • I was the only parent that sent homemade cookies.  I'm sure I either broke the rules (that I didn't know existed) or all of the other moms are cursing me for having too much time on my hands.
