a family member of DH's is going through a real rough time right now. I would love to be able to send food to her and her 2 kids. Something like the lets dish delivery program thing...problem is she lives out of the area and I dont know any of those ocmpanies to search for besides lets dish and dinner done....
does anyone know of any national companies that do meal delivery (not diet food) or any other way that we could "help out"

What about a GC to Peapod or one of those other grocery stores? I mean, I know technically it's a grocery story but would their deli and prepared foods section be included in delivery? I know a friend in Denver had several meals delivered going through a grocery store. Bagged salad & dressing, frozen family-size pasta, etc. Not exactly what you're looking for but might work?
Other options might be chain restaurants near her that have a curbside pick-up option?
Maybe if you post the city, someone with knowledge about the area could help?
I know of places that do this in St. Louis, Kansas City, Denver and Dallas.

We have used this place - Schwan's - for delivery of frozen food for my IL's before.
We bought a g/c and gave it to ILs and they could select what food they wanted. It worked great in the winter b/c we did not want them out on the roads!
