I was wondering if you guys had heard much about this bill and what your thoughts are (my gut says opposed of course, but I'd be interested in your ideas on what things you think maybe should be changed instead). How do you see the future of academia in ok if this passes?

Also, I've heard some discussion on the appropriateness of holland proposing legislation regarding university policy given the lack of universities in his district. Any thoughts on that?
Re: 5thOfJuly, Prettygirl
Disappointed.
Same reasons as 5th. Also to add, what of the future professors that desire to teach in this state? Gaining tenure is a consuming factor, adding to a state that fails to offer it AND paying salaries lower than other states will make it very difficult for colleges to recruit the best and brightest.
That being said, the consequences of this proposed legislature could prove dire not only for future academics but for present ones as well.
To think that gaining tenure is an easy feat illustrates how some politicians (or maybe many) fail to understand the hard work, dedication, hours of time consuming research? it will all be for not. Also to add, most think (tenure) it is a ?get away with murder? pass. It is not. It is to protect research, speech, and again, all the hard work you have put forth gaining tenure.
As a future professor I was disgusted. As an Oklahoman I am embarrassed.
