Bakers-how far in advance??
I am not a baker but I want to make the desserts for my daughters first birthday.
I am making cupcakes with a butter cream frosting, a cake for my daughter and chocolate chip cookies.
How far in advance can I make them? Her party is Saturday. Can I make them on Thursday? How do I store them? Bake them and do the frosting the day of?
I have no idea what I should do.
Thanks for all of your help.
Re: Bakers-how far in advance??
I would bake the cupcakes within 2 days of the party (Thursday would be fine!), and keep them in a cool, dry place in an airtight container. Putting them in the fridge can dry them out! I would frost them the same day they are to be eaten, if you can. If you want/need to frost them ahead of time, buttercream should technically be refrigerated, so I would do that to be safe (though I have kept buttercream in an airtight container overnight and have never had any problems).
Hope that helps!
I did something similar for my daughter's birthday last year. I made the cupcakes and frosted them the afternoon before and stored them in an airtight container (a cupcake carrier). I made decorated sugar cookies a week in advance and put them into individual plastic baggies (tied with a ribbon). I made the cake the night before as well.
You should be fine with making everything on Thursday as long as you store everything properly in an airtight container. The choc chip cookies should be fine if you wanted to make them earlier in the week.
HTH!
I have frozen cupcakes with no problem. Wrap them in two's in saran wrap and place in airtight container. Then place in freezer. When time to defrost...unlike cake you need to unwrap them first. They don't take long to defrost. Also I have frosted cupcakes the night before and placed them in delivery box and in fridge. I take them out before delivery. By the time they are to be eaten they are room temperature. I find travelling with the buttercream cold is best.
this wife bakes.
One of my favorite cakes ever! I had a blast making this..all handmade with buttercream suds!!!!
