Flavoring rice?

Hi! I'm curious. I've been making some meals lately that are served on white rice. Do you season your rice at all the way you would, say, butter noodles before saucing? Thanks!

Re: Flavoring rice?

  • Totally depends how you're serving and/or what you're serving it with. If it's an Asian dish with a sauce, I wouldn't season the rice, as I'd want the sauce to the be flavor. If it's on the side to a dish, I might steam the rice in broth or season in other ways.
  • I will often cook mine in veggie broth, although it depends on what I'm making.  I recently made a bay flavored brown and wild rice that was amazing...bay, shallots, veggie broth, and a touch of butter.
  • It also depends on the dish for me. But sometimes I cook it in chicken or veggie broth instead of water, or add either garlic salt, smashed cloves of garlic or a little butter.

  • I use a vegetable cube to flavor my rice.. .then I add thyme, paprika, and pepper. Just to avoid having white rice... but it depends on what is being served with it.
