Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue - WDYT? PIP

Not that's it's usually so classy or anything but I think this cover is particularly skanky...

  • That's a tiny bikini!

  • Is it sad that I think the painted on ones cover more. Wow talk about tiny.

  • YOWZA!

Well technically everything IS covered... Stick out tongue

  • I have seen every cover for the last 30 years (man am I old) and I have to say I am not impressed with the last few covers. I dont like the pics inside either. They just cant come close to the covers in the 90's with kathy Ireland, Christie Brinkley and Elle McPherson. And her boobs look weird, when you first look it looks like the left boob is crooked and she must have the worlds smallest lady parts to fit in that bottom
  • First of all, how old am I?  When I heard she was 19, my first thought was, "oh, she's a baby, she shouldn't be modeling teeny swimsuits"!!

Second, I know I'm not a horny man, but, I swear, I don't even think this is sexy.  I really don't find the squished left boob/right boob hanging out below the suit sexy at all.

    I thought the same thing!

  • The first thing I thought was the suit doesn't fit.  I also think the angle of the photo is a little weird.

  • My first thought was did the model with the smaller boobs call out sick?  It doesn't look right on her.

Photoshop can fix a lot!  I think they overphotoshopped her right arm, too.  Looks weird.

As a positive, at least from the odd angle of this photo, she doesn't look super skinny to me and seems to have a more natural figure rather than an over-exaggerated waist and hips.

  • it looks like an illustration b/c they photoshopped it so much.

otherwise- who cares?  Maxim has pics like that (or worse) on the cover every issue... SI has to compete.

  • I don't see how it's skanky?

  • I would love to see the before photoshopped picture.  Her boobs look like they did a lot to them and you know they had to erase her "lower lips".  I can't beleive she's only 19.  thats just gross to me for some reason.

  • I don't find her face particularly attractive personally but I don't find it "skanky" like I've seen in some biker mags. She's a skinny but not emaciated, attractive model in a small bikini. Nineteen might seem young I guess but most successful models start out way younger than that! I think you guys are grasping at straws. This is the SI Swimsuit mag. This is what is supposed to be on there.
  • 19 is a totally appropriate age for a model. Her body is smokin hot. Sports illustrated is supposed to be like this.
  • Yep, I agree that 19 is appropriate for a model, including a swimsuit model.  I was just laughing at myself for being old because, when I heard she was 19, I thought she was still a baby!  It's because I'm old, not because it's inappropriate!

And, I agree, I don't find it skanky.  I just don't, in anyway, find it sexy or even attractive, but, like I said, I'm not a horny man, lol!

  • it's skanky because the bikini bottom is lower than where her pubic hair would be if she had any. it's skanky because you can tell she has none LOL

i think it's clear she's wearing a bathing suit that's too small for her, which is awkward all around. i don't find it sexy.  i find the photography and photoshop work to be poor. i'd expect better of SI, they should have a better quality by now.  if my 19 year old wore that, i'd be appalled. it's not inappropriate for model-life, but it is for real life.

  • to add- just because it's what it's supposed to be for the mag, doesn't mean it's not skanky.
  • I don't think it's skanky at all and I think she looks good.  I can't imagine many women on this board who would not be happy to have this body themselves.

This board is full of some haters lately.  Not just with this chick but also about the other one people keep talking about who is posting (from what I surmise from reading the posts here) COMPLETELY NORMAL feelings about being a first time parent.  It's too bad we all can't be as wonderful, perfect parents from the getgo as those that keep calling her cuckoo and crazy and said that she won't be able to handle motherhood b/c at 3 days post-partum she said she was tired and her boobs hurt.

Let's be clear here.. 99% of the bathing suits that SI showcases in their swimsuit edition are NOT suits you'd see worn at the local/community pool. The point is to highlight the model's body, which they've done. With respect to her "lady parts" what, exactly, is skanky about being clean shaven? It's called a brazilian, and many people here have had it done, let alone people all over the country.. are they skanks?

I love the swimsuit edition. I once watched a special on HBO about the filming of theses issues, and it's not all glitz and glamour. A lot of the time they are dealing with pretty extreme weather and temperatures, long hours, yadda, yadda. Yes, they're models, they get paid for it, so they shouldn't complain, but still. What I like to see are the locations, and the artistry of the shots/angles, etc. I could give a flip about the swimsuits they wear.

And, my favorite part is the body painting ones. I think they're so awesome! I'd never be brave enough to do that.. smokin' body or not.

ETA: I'm just happy to see a 'real' body on the cover, and not plastic, fake boobs, and an emaciated, shapeless body.

  • For reals, people. It's the SI Swimsuit issue, not Creative Knitting Magazine.

Kate Upton is probably the most (relative to her predecessors, anyway) "normal" bodied SI covergirl. Have you ever seen any of her other non-SI pictures?

The only thing that disappoints me is how heavy-handed they were in Photoshopping her bottom half. Other than that, more power.

  • I think this photo rocks and this girl is freaking stunning...  my husband and I were actually discussing this photo at dinner last night.

I never said getting a wax is skanky- i said that wearing a bathing suit that is tiny enough to leave no doubt about your hairdo, or lack of, is skanky.  i think i was "clear" in my post that i was talking about the bathing suit, not the pubes. i'd love to have her body. it's not hating on the skank-factor, it's reality. SI swimsuits are famous for being tools of masturbation, so a certain slut factor is part of the goal.  like you said, it's supposed to show off the body more. they didn't choose the suit for it's artistic quality, they choose it for how little it covers. much like when you try to dress slutty for a night out you make sure your boobs are showing their best cleavage, nothing "wrong" with it, it just is what it is.

and really- she looks like a plastic doll posed in front of a backdrop, it doesn't look like she's even really there. i just don't think this cover was that good.

  • i would do 100 HCG cycles if it would guarentee me looking like that. thats what i think.

on the other hand, i also kind of feel like when it comes to the bikini bottom- whats the point? LOL
