positive update on baby kitteh

Ernie is a freakin' fighter.

This morning we got the results of the latest blood work and cytology on the fluid they pulled out of baby's abdomen- NEGATIVE for FIP. Party!!! They seemed certain it was this, but it wasn't. So he doesn't have a 100% death sentence.

And the real kicker... blood results showed extremely low albumin, which explains his fluid and his sickness in general. Apparent cause? TOXICITY. New vet won't place blame, but stated that it was a bad idea to give baby kitteh so many vaccines and such a high dose of the antiparasitic while he was on an antibiotic.

The best news? THIS IS CURABLE.  Party!!!

He was admitted for a 2 night stay at the animal hospital, he's getting a plasma infusion to replace his albumin, special meds to pull the medicine back into his vasculature, and of course fluids and syringe feedings.

The only scary part left is to check bile salts to determine if this has caused any liver damage- but the blood levels look great and he's not jaundiced whatsoever.

Our tax return went from gigantic to nothing, but if we get out of this with out kitten alive and a new caring vet, I'm not going to complain.

Keep fighting baby Ernie!
