help with getting baby to sleep
Isla will not go to sleep before 12:30 at night. Last night it was 2:00 before she was really asleep. I try to keep her up from 6-7 at night and on, but she will fight sleep from 10 until around midnight. She will fall asleep during this time, but is wide awake the second she is put down. Once she is really asleep, she'll sleep for 3-5 hours at a time, and go back to sleep easily. How do I get her to go to sleep earlier? When I go back to work, 4 hours of sleep is not going to work for me!
Re: help with getting baby to sleep
Yikes! That is sucky. I'm sorry.
How old is she now? How long does she sleep once she does go down? How often does she wake at night to eat? Are you getting her belly really full before she goes down so she gets extra sleepy? What time is she "up for the day"? What is her napping schedule during the day?
I guess I would try to move her bedtime up by 15 minutes each night until you get her to a reasonable bedtime. I would also try to alter her schedule during the day to get her more awake during the day and more sleepy at night. I know this is not great advice, I'm sorry.
I am in the same boat, but with a 7m old.
She's too young for CIO, which we are trying and failing at.
Can you try to keep her up earlier in the day and ditto the moving the bedtime up every few nights until it's earlier? Can you sleep when she sleeps earlier in the evening so you're awake when she's awake later in the evening?
Getting her used to the crib is good, even if she's not sleeping until midnight. I didn't do this and now Ian hates his crib.
She doesn't really have a schedule, it's all over the place. In general, she is awake for an hour or so around 9, then sleeps until 11ish. Then she's awake for a couple hours, then sleeps for 2-3 hours in the afternoon. She's awake again in the evening around dinner, then falls asleep for another hour or so. Then, from 8ish on, she's awake, will try to fall asleep, then wakes right back up until around midnightish.
Kendra recommended the 90 minute sleep theory, so we're going to give that a shot today and see if that makes a difference.
I had never heard of this 90 minute thing before, so I downloaded the e-book this morning and read up on it. I'm hoping this helps. It's not so bad for me since I can sleep during the day, but DH is getting very tired, and he doesn't run well on little sleep.
