It's been awhile since I brought home a "new" dog and yes I already have one. But, what should I be buying to bring home with her? She is long haired so what kind of comb/brush should I get? And Magic doesn't play with toys or sleep on a dog bed nor is he crated so I have no clue about any of those things
TIA!
ETA: I heard from the people that did our home visit that the Greenies treats aren't being recommended anymore because dogs can choke on them. Have you heard that?
Re: And refresh my mind...
Yes, some of the Greenies dog treats aren't recommended anymore for that reason. We give the kitties Greenies treats, but those are still safe. I think it's especially the toothbrush-shaped greenies dental treats that are an issue, or any of the larger ones they're meant to gnaw on. A small, bite-sized treat is probably still fine.
As for grooming stuff/toys/beds/etc, ask the rescue/fosters what she likes as far as toys and bedding. Or just get a few different things and see what she prefers. You can always get more once she's settled in and really starts interacting.
We bought a pretty cheap and basic bed for when we brought Zoey home (just in case she ever decided to become a bed destroying machine). We do allow her up on the couches, though, so she usually prefers to be up on them rather than on her bed. If you're not sure, get what appeals to you (or what you think will appeal to her) and see how it goes. Get something inexpensive so that if she's not into it, it's not a big loss.
I can't help with the grooming stuff. I have no idea what a longer-haired dog needs in that dept!
