I generally buy chicken (ground, boneless skinless breast or whole) from our local grocery store when it is on sale, but they have gone much longer than usual without a sale and I am quickly running out. I don't usually buy meat or produce from my local Walmart. I haven't been happy with the produce from there, although if I am being honest, our local grocery store's record with the quality of produce I have purchased isn't stellar either. Anyway, I am wondering if anyone has had any bad experiences with the quality of the Tyson or Pilgrim brand whole chicken, boneless skinless breast or ground chicken at Walmart? It is comparable to or much less expensive than the sale prices at the grocery store and I need to get some soon, plus I like to save money where I can.
Re: Chicken from Walmart?
Honest question, do you think that Tyson or Pilgrim separates out the chicken from their other markets from the stuff they give to Walmart?
I really don't understand why you would think that chicken from Walmart would be any different from the chicken from your regular store.
I've gotten all types of meat from Walmart (it was closer than the grocery store, cheaper, and they had a better selection that the crappy grocery store by my house) and i'm here to tell about it, so I'd say it's fine.

Pretty much this. If you're not getting your chicken from a local butcher, or or any place where you know how the chicken is raised/fed/etc. there is really not going to be a difference from one big box store to the other.
Honest answer, I have heard that in the past (which may not be the case now, I don't know) some of the quality of some things, mainly non food items, that Walmart sells was not as good as at some other stores and I wasn't sure if that carried over into other departments. Also, my experience with some of their produce has not been good, but again, some of the grocery store produce hasn't been great at times either. I didn't mean to ruffle feathers (no pun intended) with my question, I was just looking for some thoughts on the matter from others who have purchased chicken there.
i dont want to buy anything from walmart-certainly not food. not a fan at all. i buy from my local butcher. better quality all around and i only have to buy the amount i need and have him wrap it-not the preset sizes at the regular store.
sorry---walmart just gives me the creeps.
