Greek yogurt lovers (esp if you eat it plain)

What brand do you prefer?

I started with Fage and love it.  I later tried oikos and blech - it tastes like plain yogurt.  I much prefer the taste of Fage - it's almost like sour cream.

This week I tried Cabot and it's just like Fage (maybe a touch more sour), but about 1/2 the price (yay!).  I wanted to investigate the other options (since there are so many now), but don't want to waste money on the plain yogurt tasting ones.

Re: Greek yogurt lovers (esp if you eat it plain)

  • Fage is by far my favorite...by far.  I cannot stand Chobani...Oikos is better (although normally I just buy regular plain Stoneyfield and just drain liquid as it separates).  The yoplait one is also blech...  There's been a few other brands I've tried from Earth Fare (similar to Whole Foods) that I liked, but I cannot remember the brands.  I don't think I've even seen Cabot, but I like their other products...
  • I buy Fage and adore it.

Does Cabot have as much protein as Fage? I know my store doesnt' carry it but I might turn in a product request card...

  • I like Trader Joe's plain nonfat Greek yogurt.
  • Definitely Fage. TJ's is pretty good too. I don't like Chobani or Oikos. I'll have to try Cabot, i don't think I've seen it!

  • I eat Cabot also, but can't say how it compares to others since it's the only one I've tried. The plain low-fat has 22g of protein in a 1 cup serving. Not sure how that compares to the other brands...  I eat Cabot because it's by far the cheapest Greek yogurt at our grocery store and I like the taste.
  • I compared the protein counts and they are the same (once you account for serving size differences) between the low-fat cabot and the 2% or 0% Fage.

  • I buy Wegmans brand.  I used to buy Fage, but I prefer the texture of Wegmans plus it's a little less expensive.

I also like Trader Joe's, but it costs me more which is why until Wegmans came out with their store brand I was buying Fage (I got it at Costco in the large containers).

I don't care for Oikos.  Chobani is ok, but it's more expensive so not worth it since I like the others better anyway.

  • Thanks everyone! I don't have easy access to TJ's, so it looks like I'm going to be a Cabot convert!

Cabot might only be distributed in New England...

  • I love Fage and Chobani is a close second. I don't like Oikos at all...or the other Greek one that starts with a "V". I really don't care for the Yoplait or Dannon...bleck!
  • You can get Cabot's outside of New England, I've bought it in Atlanta. I like Fage, Cabot and Chobani. But I recently started making my own Greek yogurt.
  • I buy Fage 2% for DS and so that is what I eat as well. I bought Chobani a few times when the grocery store was out of Fage and I did not like it. Sadly I don?t think my grocery store carries Cabot.

    Good to know!

I wanted to try chobani last week, since it's so popular, but my store doesn't carry a plain version.  They were all flavored.

  • I agree-Fage is the best tasting to me.

I will also buy the TJ brand. I believe that Stoneyfield makes the TJ brand yogurts. I buy the larger size TJ zero% greek yogurt b/c it seems to be the best deal.

  • I perfer to make it myself. I make it with organic grassfed milk. I love the Bulgarian culture because it is thick and creamy and slighly sweet. My family eats about a half gallon of yogurt per week so it is more economical to make the yogurt than to buy it.
  • I love Chobani! Guess I'm an odd one out with that. Fage is good, but I refuse to pay that much more for each yogurt cup.
