crib mattress question

I flip or rotate our DD's mattress everytime I change the sheets, so about once a week. I have started to notice lately that she is leaving an impression and it doesn't seem to be fully bouncing back.

She is going to be moving to a twin hopefully in the next week and I am wondering if we should keep the mattress or get rid of it and buy another one when we decide to have #2? I'm just not sure if it has made the mattress less firm or if this is really just common over time and perfectly fine to use again.

Re: crib mattress question

  • We didn't buy a very expensive mattress for Ash, and I fully expect to have to replace it for kid 2. She definitely leaves a dent, and only sleeps in it for nap and about 3 hours each night.

That doesn't really answer your question, I know, but if it was me I'd plan on replacing it :)

  • I think that there is some research that re-using a crib mattress can increase the risk of SIDS. We bought a new one for DD, because DS still uses his (on his toddler bed).

  • If your mattress is showing that much wear, then I would replace it with future children.   The one we had for DD still looked and felt brand new when we had #2, so we used the same one.  It is still really firm and both kids have always been all over the place while sleeping in their crib and not in one spot that I don't have any indentations like that.

I remember reading something about reusing a mattress when I was pregnant but obviously didn't pay much attention. Thanks, I will look into that.
