Does new music still move you?

I laugh at my husband and his bf...they are stuck music wise. J never really progressed much past 1995 with listening to new music.

Obviously, there are always the songs of my youth, lol, that just suck me in and I'll always love but every once in a while a song or a band comes along that I just fall in love with. Pandora is good for this cause it'll just play old and new stuff, completely obscure stuff you've never heard. I know the band Blue October and I've liked some of their stuff but this one song is literally all I can listen to right now. Add to that I found the most amazing live version and I'm ADDICTED. I've listened to it easily 10 times today. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khZ1eQyajRU

So what hooks you in??

  • I think I'm like you- I wouldnt want to be stuck in that classic rock "rut."  I have been loving Cage the Elephant lately- I cant stop listening to them.  I saw them in a live concert on MTV2 - and Pandora is excellent.

  • Opening bands at shows, recs from friends with similar taste in music, music writing, like from pitchfork, etc., and, as lame as it sounds , what amazon recommends for me.

  • Yup. I listen to a lot of Sirius XM & Alt Nation so I "discover" a lot of music on there. I also read a billion magazines so I check out bands that I read about.

I'm also loving Cage the Elephant. It took me a bit, I didn't love the first stuff I heard from them but then Aberdeen came out and I was OBSESSED which made me give the first cd another listen and now I'm a total fan.

  • I still love the stuff I grew up listening too in the 70's & early 80's, but I was big into Adele when Chasing Pavements came out and when I discovered Pandora, her station has given me a whole bunch of new people to love. I also found Ray Lamantagne (sp?) and his station helped me find another dozen or so similar. And I love my Jay Z. My music tastes make no sense
