Monday was my first day back to work. Not only did I have to get back into the rhythm of working I had to precept a respiratory student. Talk about going zero to sixty! I really liked the student though. She is smart and ready to do hands on learning. She said that she really wanted to go to a couple of deliveries while she was here. I said no problem we can go to any of the ones they call the NICU for. We didn't have any one Monday.
She was with me again today and we go called to one. Well she just about passed out during the delivery!!!! FAIL!!!! She forgot to mention to me that she nearly passed out the first time she drew blood!!! Thankfully the baby was fine and I could turn my attention to her, but I'm not so sure I will be taking her to any c-sections next Wed when she is with me again. This was a vaginal delivery and I dont even think she saw any of it. I think the green slimy baby was too much for her.
Re: Preceptor FAIL
Oh no! She probably should have warned you.
This seems odd to me because I have a really hard time with blood draws, gore, procedures, etc (have my whole life) but I have no issue with the blood/bodily fluids related to a delivery, never have. I feel like it's really different when it's an accident/problem than when it's a natural thing like a baby being born...
Anywho! I hope she gets better and doesn't have such a hard time in the future!
