I'm in charge of doing easter baskets for my kids and my niece. She's 8 yrs old. I'm partially doing this because my sister is coming here and I figured it'd be easier for her for me to do it and she can add to it or not and doesn't have to travel with a full basket (and try to hide it). The other part is that I dont want her to get a TON of candy that my kids won't be getting. I think it's ridiculous and apparently doesn't ever get eaten anyhow.
So... I'm pretty set on my boys, but I'm struggling with her. I'd love to do some handmade things for her, but not all of it.
What did you get in your easter baskets as a kid and love? Anyone have any ideas for me?? (I'm fairly crafty so any ideas are good... I'm not a huge sewer but I can do a basic pattern)
Re: Can we jump to Easter for a minute?
Um, chocolate. And lots of it. lol.
If you don't want to do candy, what about a coloring book w/ markers? Or a stuffed bunny or chick. You could probably go to the dollar store and get a bunch of cute little things.
I am making a basket for my nieces and this is what I am doing for them so far:
*lip gloss
*stickers
*sticker book
*kite
*socks
*a self inking stamp
*a craft kit to make a sun catcher
*a craft kit to make a bracelet
Let me know if you need any other ideas I work at a kids store so I full of ideas
Gold Fish Carrot
We always got the same things.
Jelly beans (usually just scattered freely in the basket. my mom would buy it in bulk and split it between the three of us)
Chocolate bunny
Reeses Chocolate Eggs
And that is it... My parents were pretty good about not loading us up on too much sugar and they never really got us little trinkets (my mom was really anti-clutter).

That's adorable!
This is the type of things we use to get in our baskets, along with a bit of candy.
And speaking of Easter, Im 28 years old and my parents still do Easter for all of us kids, even though there are 4 of us over the age of 18, lol. Though we dont get baskets any more, we get a chocolate bunny with a gift card taped to it. I think the reason we still get an Easter treat is because my Dad really enjoys hiding the bunnys in the most difficult places and since its just a bunny there are a lot more spots available for hiding them.
I cant believe I just admitted that.
DD #1 is 8 years old and her taste changes with the wind, as with most 8 year olds I imagine! But if you wanted to include some handmade things, and you are crafty, you could try to make accessories or clothes for her dolls or toys that she plays with (my little pony? little spet shop? polly pocket? la la loopsy dolls? american girl?). You could also make some homemade soaps that have things in them. DD got soaps recently with silly bands, little animal figures, glitter etc in them. Or how about a magazine subscription to a kids magazine. American Girl is one for the 6-10 year old set.
As for store bought things, can't go wrong with stickers, glitter glue, scented markers, glitter pens, crafty stuff in general... little lip glosses and hand lotions, too.
