Dog nose moisturizer?

My Frenchie's nose ranges from cold and wet to warm and dry. Lately I've noticed that his nose appears to be drying out. Is there anything I can use to moisturize it? A "crack" looks like its beginning to for. We were at the vet for shots last week and I forgot to ask. We go back in a couple of weeks but was wondering if there was something to try in the meantime.

Re: Dog nose moisturizer?

  • I don't know if there is anything OTC for dogs to hold you over in the meantime, but my Mom has to get a cream for our goldens at the vet. Their noses tend to peel away from the dryness/change of season and it works wonders!

  • Our cats nose was super chapped awhile back from a cold he had. One of the users here recommend Vaseline. Won't hurt to check to see if it's ok for dogs, too.
  • Napoleons nose is horrible! I use vaseline, or some desitin that is like vasaline (not the white stuff) and put it on. It works but he licks most of it off. Or you can poke a hole in a vitamin e capsul and smear that on. It takes us putting it on a few times a day for a few days to see any difference.
  • We use bag balm on our bulldog, works great. We have also used Aquafor.
  • What about *** Balm?  It can be used on teated animals so I'm sure it would work just as well on a dry doggie nose.

ETA: Ok apparently the nest thinks it's a dirty word.  Ok, let's try this - U-replace the t's with Ds-er Balm!
