Baby on insurance

I'm guessing I need to call the insurance company to add Kaelin to our insurance correct?

Do I wait til I have her SS card? Go ahead and call now and get the ball rolling?

Re: Baby on insurance

  • You usually have 30 days to do this or the baby won't be covered until the next open enrollment period. Do it right now.
  • Call right away to get the ball rolling. Also call your employer if you haven't already. There's stuff to be done on their end too.

  • We are on my husbands insurance. When both of our kids were born we told his employer. They then had us bring in the "pretty" hospital birth certificate and fax to the insurance company until we got the legal birth certificate and social security numbers.

  • You can do it anytime 30 days after birth, so yes, definitely start the process.  They will tell you what you need.  I think you do need SS#.
  • As others have said, get it started now.  With S, he needed medication within a week of being born and I waited and ended up paying for the meds completely then had to go back within 7 days to the pharmacy for a refund once I knew he was "in the system"

Plus, with you being so busy with baby right now, the 30 days will go by fast and that is one area you do not want to forget to do.
