Yuck!

We asked the rescue what she was feeding our babies and she said "pedigree". I just looked up the ingredients Crying

Ingredients: Ground Whole Corn, Meat And Bone Meal, Ground Whole Wheat, Corn Gluten Meal, Animal Fat (preserved With BHA and Citric Acid), Wheat Mill Run, Chicken By-product Meal, Natural Flavor, Salt, Rice, Potassium Chloride, Vegetable Oil (source of Linoleic Acid), Vitamins (Dl-alpha Tocopherol Acetate [source of Vitamin E], Choline Chloride, L-Ascorbyl-2-Polyphosphate [source of Vitamin C*], Vitamin A Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate [Vitamin B1], Biotin, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Riboflavin Supplement [Vitamin B2], Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement), Dried Vegetables (Peas, Carrots), Minerals (Zinc Sulfate, Zinc Proteinate, Copper Sulfate, Copper Proteinate, Manganese Proteinate, Potassium Iodide), Added FD&C Colors (Red 40, Blue 2, Yellow 6, Yellow 5).

I don't see one thing of real meat in there anywhere. I so can't wait to switch them to Chicken Soup! Poor babies!

Re: Yuck!

  • Gross.  I questioned a prescription food that one of my cats is on just the other day.  It has by-products and corn in it as well.  And it's prescription! Go figure.  I am so glad that pet owners and starting to pay attention to what's in their pet's food!

Same. Sherlock is on Urinary SO and it has corn in it... even though the vet explained to me that corn isn't digestible at all by cats. Um, gee thanks?

Good for you to get them on healthy food soon! Just don't forget to do a gradual switch :)

  • Jasper was fed a no-name generic brand! ie) Wal-Mart brand...because she couldn't "afford" anything better for the fosters (she had 5!) but her personal pets we fed something better...

yeah - no wonder Jasper has tummy issues...

Yucky stuff, but I don't really blame her... if she can have 1 foster and feed it great food, or have 5 fosters and feed them crap until they are adopted, I vote 5 fosters.

This is probably (most likely definitely) the reason we can't have more pets right now. I choose to feed them the best I can, so I spend a little more. I'm sure we could afford to feed a couple of more mouths if we bought the cheaptastic Kit'n'Kaboodles or Ol'Roy. Ick!

This is a very good point! And Most of the fosters were in a program for delinquent kids as part of a therapy program at H's work (how we found Jasper).  So while they were fed crap food they did do other amazing things!
