If you had to go into witness protection, but could choose your details for your new life, what name would you choose? Where would you go? What would you do for a living (assuming that the Feds could get you some backup and you could fake it?)
Re: QOTD Thursday
Name: Do I need to try to "hide" my heritage/ethnicity? If not, I might go with Soraya. I've always liked that name. If I need to hide that, I might go with some version of Isobel/Isabella. I think I could pull that off.
Location: Hawaii is tempting, but I'd probably never see my extended family, which is a bummer (unless they have to relocate with me). In that case, maybe a nice beach town in Florida.
Job: Outside of my current career, my skill set is pretty limited. I've always liked the idea of running a small luxury resort/hotel/B&B in an fabulous location. I'm guessing this is one of those things that sounds better in fantasy than it is in reality, but I'll go with it.
That's hard! I don't really have a preference for last name. But maybe as a first name I would like something pretty like Lucia.
If a foreign country is an option, some small French town on the Cote d'Azur would be lovely working at a wine/cheese shop.

Name: Anne Marie. I love that name.
Place: Somewhere out west or maybe the midwest. I think dry heat would do wonders for my hair.
Job: I would likely just be a housewife, but if I HAD to get a job, i'd probably teach, although, i'm not sure being a teacher would help me "lay low". Maybe I could be a librarian.
Somewhat related: 4 houses down from ours growing up, the family there was in witness protection. Or at least, they were so weird and random, and kind of quiet in a creepy way that witness protection was the only explanation. Or maybe they were serial killers. But, most everyone in the neighborhood agreed that they must have been witness protection. They kept to themselves and after about 3 years they just disappeared. No one saw moving trucks, the house was never for sale. It was very strange.
We make the rockin' world go 'round.
NAME: Seriously, Madeline. I've always loved that name. But I also think it would be funny to rock a Bart Simsonesque name ala Ima Turdmongler or something.
LOCATION: Assuming, of course, the FBI would be on board with paying us a crapton of money, London. I also really like Denver area, Chicago and Austin. I adore Hawaii but not sure about totally relocating there.
JOB: Travel/food critic. That or shoe-tester-outer for Bergdorffs.... what? That could be a real job, right?
these are great questions! do i have to stay in the US or can i live anywhere in the world?
Great question!
Name, something using Sophia. I love that name!
Place, assuming I can go anywhere - Edinburgh, Scotland. If only the US, then maybe San Francisco.....
I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to own (or even work in) a bakery or dessert shoppe.
Your questions are too thought-provoking!
New name: Regina Phalange! No, seriously, maybe Charlotte, or Annabelle. Or Sophie. Although my dad did want to name me Martha . . . (kidding)
Where would you go: Either somewhere in northern California (I'm sure I could go fairly unnoticed in San Francisco), or downeast Maine.
What would you do: I think maybe try to open a bakery (if we're talking fantasy-type jobs). Otherwise, something not super mentally taxing, liking being an admin assistant or something.

Everything I know about witness protection I learned from In Plain Sight! Love that show. Anyway,
Name: I always liked the name Victoria.
Place: I don't think they send you anywhere terribly glamorous - but in a fantasy world, I'd ask to go to San Diego. I have never been there, but it seems like they have lovely weather all year round. If I was allowed to go to Europe, I would want to go to London.
Job: I would like to work in an art gallery, or a nice gift shop.
Name: Gabrielle (this is actually a girl's name we have picked out for a possible daughter someday)
Location: Sedona, AZ- I love the climate and beautiful red rock. Plus, it's so laid-back with all of the spas, hotels, and art galleries.
Job: I'd work in an art gallery.
Planning Bio
LOCATION: I've heard rumors that there's a big witness protection population on the Big Island of Hawaii, so I'd go there. I'm not allowed to have contact with family/friends anyway, right?
JOB: I'd like to own a small shop that sells housewares and gourmet items.
name: kate - i like the name a lot and i'm too white/european mutt looking to pull off a more unique/ethnic name.
location: london or edinburgh (Mrs.Hab, i will pretend we've never met, k?)
job: working in an art gallery or museum (though if i have to do something different because i already have an art background, i would probably go with librarian)
FUN!!! Um, BTW I wrote out my QsOTD for next week and I thought they were decent, but heads up, people, they're not nearly this cool.
Anyhoo, I'd have to re-consult with Otto for the exact location, but if not a coastal city in Italy, we'd likely choose a coastal city in SC, FL, or CA. I could still do life coaching because most of it is over the phone - very anonymous.
As for the name I've always written myself as a Robin ("Robbie") in my childhood fiction pieces (including my character name in the script I co-wrote for "Goonies II" - Robbie Lynnwood, oh I had plans for you and Mikey!) ... I think I still like it. Though for some reason "Trixie" won't leave my head right now ...
I intended to respond to this right away but got hijacked by stupid work. I'm ready to go into witness protection RIGHT NOW after this morning!
I think for a name I'd like to go with something fun like Piper or Poppy. They've always been two of my favorite names that I think a child would hate, but that I could live with as an adult.
As for where to go and what to do, I think it would be fun to be anywhere on the coast near a beach - maybe in a touristy area that is hoppin during the season but then dead and secluded in the off season... maybe own the popular little coffee shop in town... or become a behind the scenes travel photographer or something - though I feel like if you go into witness protection, you have to limit your movements and visibility a bit, no?
My new name would be Cordelia or Amanda.
I would probably ask to be moved to California. I have too many friends in the Bay Area, so maybe San Diego. If that wouldn't work out, I would be ok with living in a university town in the midwest (i.e. Madison or Ann Arbor).
My new occupation? I would like to work in a children's bookstore.
That's DD's name. So far (as a baby), she seems to like it.
Name: Probably Hannah. I've always loved that name.
Where I'd go: London, Tahiti, or Caribbean
What I'd Do: If it was Tahiti or Caribbean, DH and I would own a hotel/dive shop (WnW, we should work together or at least make sure we're not competitors). If it was London, I'd be a hotel/travel critic--like Samantha Brown on TV.
Name: Leia or Amira
Location: Somewhere warm, beside a river or lake. Witness protection keeps you in the country, but if they randomly decided to go international I would choose an Italian coast or Lake Como.
Job: Novel editor
Awww.... I love it. It seems like such a cute compact name to me!!
Also, I'm going to start giving the side eye to new gals that I meet who's name ends in "a" or "ah" after this.... sounds like they are on the run, judging from our lists!
