Pediatrician Recommendations...

I live in NW Omaha 90th & Fort area.  Any recommendations for that area?  Also do you meet with them prior to giving birth or after when your child needs to see them?  I am at a complete loss with this part.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Pediatrician Recommendations...

  • I don't live in that area, but I would certainly meet them ahead of time. You ask them questions to make sure their philosophies jive with yours. Are wanting a doctor who is very supportive of breastfeeding, an alternative vaccine schedule, attachment parenting, etc? Are they open when you need them (Saturdays). Do they have a lab in the office or do they need to send samples out (which can add a day to finding out blood results). How long is the average wait time? Also, make sure they have privileges at the hospital you will give birth at.

Here is a nice sheet to take with you: http://assets.babycenter.com/ims/Content/first-year-health-guide_doctor_interview.pdf

  • Plus they come (at least mine did) and examine baby at the hospital after they are born.
  • I'm not far from you (90th/Sorenson) and we go to Physicians Clinic at Regency and see Dr. Woodford. I really like him. We didn't meet prior to birth, maybe we should have but we just didn't. I just figured if I didn't like him after our first visit I wouldn't go back :)

  • We see Dr Kaufman at the Childrens Physicians in Eagle Run.

  • We live very close to you, but we go clear out to Village Pointe. Our pedi was originally located at 90th & Dodge but moved, and we loved her enough to follow her. We see Kari Krenzer at Children's Physicians.

  • We're near 156th and State St. and we go to Methodist Healthwest off 156th and Dodge. Dr. Rosann Nichols is a great pediatrician, and was highly recommended by my OBGYN Dr. Carlson. We set up an appointment with her before our DD was born so we could get to know more about her and the way she practices.

  • We live close to you but we see Dr. Loucks with Dundee Childrens Physicians - we really love her.  She wasn't our original pedi right when DD was born, and the pedi we did have did not have hospital privileges at UNMC - don't let that sort of thing deter you, because the hospital has pediatricians to do that visit as well, and you would take your child for a follow-up appointment a couple of days later.

  • We love a little north of you and see Dr. Nate Asher at Boystown on 88 x Center. He's fantastic. Open till 8 one night/week, Saturday appts, same day sick appts, dedicated after hours nurse line...he's very rest going and really great with the unexpected. He followed us in the NICU (not common...came not once but twice) and has been very agressive with treating C's ear infections. He will also call back personally to avoid a bounce-back appt if possible.

  • We see Dr. Heather Zimmerman at Boystown on Pacific St.  I absolutely adore her!  She is very progressive and keeps up on research (i.e. she was a strong advocate of extended rear-facing in a carseat before it was more mainstream.

Our original pedi was more laid-back and I will always wonder if that had any effect on my son's clubfoot.  My son was slow to talk and was right on top of it.  She also has called me on her day off to give me lab results.  Love her!!
