Where to buy swimming suit?
I used to LOVE swimming growing up and since I want to get some added fitness in I want to go back.
Where can I find a 1 piece swim suit. Everything that is starting to come out right now is all the fashion friendly beach wear but I'm looking for an exercise practical suit. I can find places online but I would rather try them on in person - I'm going to cringe and hate myself for doing it but I find swimsuits are always funky sizing.
Re: Where to buy swimming suit?
I was going to suggest Land's End as well. They also have "long torso" bathing suits, which fit me better.
If you are going to swim for fitness, you'll definitely want something like a Speedo. Personally, I'd go to a sporting goods store, try on different sizes and styles (they have different backs, I personally prefer the ones with thinner straps, the thick strapped ones leave a chafe mark on my neck from turning my head to breath that ends up looking like a hickey). Generally, you want a suit you wear for fitness swimming to be tighter than one you wear for going to the beach or whatever, since they tend to stretch out with frequent use.
Once you've determined what size you want and style you like, then I'd order online. I get most of mine from the clearance section of SwimOutlet.com. I really don't care what they look like, since I just wear them for Master's practice, so the design on the suit doesn't really matter to me.
If you are in MoCo, Aardvark Swim and Sport on Rockville Pike has a good clearance rack too.
I agree with the PP about going to a sporting goods store and looking at Speedo brand or other swim suit brands designed for exercise. Speedos will have good coverage, wider straps, and more options with a razorback cut in the back which will be more comfortable for swimming for exercise.
With all of that being said, I love Lands End swimsuits for leisure swim wear. They are very generous with the Lycra (one of my favorite materials!) and they are high quality. You can return LE stuff at Sears. So, if you buy something and it doesn't fit, you don't have to pay return shipping.
Huh! When I read the above the word Diick's was **** but when I copied it and am reading the word right now it actually reads "D-i-c-k-'s"
Anyway - ditto the above. I was there last weekend getting shoes and saw a decent size swimsuit collection that were all geared towards swimming for sport vs. lounging.
