Casual brunch

I'm having a play date on Sunday with two mom's and 3 toddlers.  One of the mom's is bringing bagels and the other a dessert.  I don't want to go crazy with the food since I'm sure they will have breakfast before and then leave before nap time, they are coming at 10.  I was going to get fruit and sliced cheeses and maybe a few cold cuts as well as cream cheese for the bagels.  Do you think this is good or should I make something else?  Other things I was thinking is that I can make a salad or put out raw veggies for the kids.  I was going to do a quiche but I'm not sure if it's really needed.

Re: Casual brunch

  • I'd do a quiche since it can be eaten hot or room temp. But I'd always rather have more food and then have leftovers then find out people are hungry. I think between the quiche, bagels, fruit and dessert that's plenty.
  • I think you'd be O.K. with fruit (either a mixed fruit salad, or a fruit platter maybe with a yogurt/cream cheese dip), or some veggies and dip. Definitely get some cream cheese. Maybe plain and then one of those specialty flavors, like vegetable or strawberry.

How long will they be there? I don't think you need something heavy like the quiche unless they'll be there more than 2-3 hours. (And if they ARE there that long, then maybe just get some rolls, cold cuts and chips for a sandwich lunch. Maybe even with some soup.)

  • I think what you have planned sounds fine, especially for  that time of day.

The last play date I went to, the host made brownies & a veggie platter. I brought apple cider, pita chips & hummus, and another mom brought some mozzarella sticks, etc that we put in the toaster oven.
