S/O: Ways to teach a 3 year old about the importance of giving back

Any ideas on this one? If it were Christmas time, I'd say we could buy a small gift for a needy child.

  • We have them help make brown bag lunches for the bridegs organzation.  When they are older we plan on taking them on the runs to hand out stuff.

I make them clean out toys every once in awhile and they each have to choose 5 toys to donate to a kid that doesn't have toys.

The toy one is a great one. I could see doing that with books as well. Thanks.
  • daycare has a box for food donations for a local shelter... so, every week the kids bring something for the box.

If they come grocery shopping w me then they pick something out.

  • We do it with toys. She understands that not all kids have toys so she helps pick stuff to donate.

We also went shopping for supplies for an animal shelter. She helped pick everything out and we delivered it together.

We do this. She also has a charity piggy bank. Surprisingly she puts as much in there as her others (she has like 4).  Last year she decided on her own to give three of her banks to my aunt's nephew, who is a missionary priest in Zimbabwe.  It was a proud moment for me. They do get it :)  She also does different things with school and daisy scouts.

  • many shelters have "Birthday in a box" you provide decorations, plates, balloons, silverware, cards, etc all the paper stuff for a party. Reilly's class does it every month 1 for a boy, 1 for a girl, she loves doing it.
