Feed my kid

Ok, C is 9 months old and showing signs that he's over purees. We do crackers/graham crackers, puffs, teething biscuits, bananas, sweet potato fries, green beans, oatmeal, pancakes, scrambled eggs, peanut butter and bites of whatever we're eating. We are for aiming 3 meals + 2 snacks with 600-700 calories/day since he's no longer on the growth chart. What else can I feed to help mix things up?

    this: http://whattocooktoday.com/chicken-and-kale-risotto-with-pine-nuts-and-bacon.html

This is in tyler florence's kids cook book. Lyra eats it by the handfull. I omit the pine nuts. I make it up, put it in the food processor to make it all smaller, then use my large cookie scoop, scoop it out onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper, throw it in the freezer, once frozen I just put them in a ziplock bag. Initially I did ice cube trays but now that she's eating more this works great. For the arborio rice, hyvee has a brand (at the 76/cass store) it is in a yellow bag on the top shelf. Like 3 or 4 bucks. Not the $$$$ brand they also carry. You get about 2 servings out of the bag with this recipe. So that helps.

Oh and make it when either the hubby is around or baby is in bed. You can't really leave the rice when cooking it.

  • Chicken, rice, yogurt, diced fruits and veggies...

Delilah started refusing purees really early, so I went and looked at all of the "kids foods" - The little Gerber graduates meals, spaghettio's, lunchables, etc and then make them myself.

For example, I would get some crackers, diced some cheese, get bits of meat - voila!  Lunchables, but cheaper and healthier!  I would get some tomato soup or pasta sauce, cook some little noodles super soft make some little meatballs - Spaghettios!  Chicken and rice is also a good one.  Then I would buy frozen bags of veggies - cut green beans, peas and carrots, etc.  Pour out a small amount and cook it really soft (cut the green beans).  I did this until she was consistently eating what we were eating.
